SINGAPORE - A 62-year-old man was on Monday (Dec 21) sentenced to six months' jail for slashing a 51-year-old man outside a KTV.

Wong Kam Poh pleaded guilty to a charge of hurting with a dangerous weapon, and a count of possessing a scheduled weapon.

A count of punching another victim repeatedly on her head was also taken into consideration during sentencing.

Wong also admitted to charges of criminal intimidation, and causing grievous hurt.

A district court heard that on April 12 this year, Wong was drinking with his friends at City KTV at City Plaza when he wastold that two of his female friends had gotten into a dispute with other patrons at the toilet outside the KTV.

Wong then went to confront the unknown patrons.

Shortly after, at about 2.10am, he went back to his apartment in City Plaza, took out a flick knife with a 11cm blade, and went back to the area outside the KTV.

At about 2.15am, a passer-by, Wong Bing, 51, saw one of the patrons being assaulted by Wong Kam Poh.

Wong Bing went up to the latter in an attempt to calm him down, but Wong Kam Poh took out the flick knife from under his T-shirt and swung it at Wong Bing.

The knife cut two of his fingers, causing a 1-cm wound on his right index finger and a minor cut on the right middle finger.

The assailant then walked away.

For causing hurt using a weapon likely to cause death, Wong Kam Poh could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined.

For unlawful possession of a scheduled weapon, he could have been jailed for up to five years.

He was spared caning as those over 50 years old cannot be caned.
