SANDAKAN, Malaysia - Police have detained a 24-year-old man who is suspected of raping his three-year-old niece.
The man was arrested in the wee hours of Friday after the girl's mother lodged a police report.
Sandakan deputy police chief Supt Fadzil Mohd Ali said the 40-year-old mother found her daughter crying and bleeding from her private part on her return from work at about 7.30pm on Thursday.

She then lodged the report. The girl was later admitted to the Duchess of Kent hospital.
It is understood that the suspect was taking care of the woman's three children, aged between two and four, at their house while she was away.
Fadzil said that investigations were being carried out for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
