KUALA LUMPUR: A 28-year-old man informed his parents that he had been kidnapped and that they had to pay RM25,000 for his release.

The parents lodged a police report on Thursday and police traced their son's car to a parking bay at the Ria Apartments in Genting Highlands the following day.

The man was arrested while he was gambling, said Gombak OCPD ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah.

He was being investigated over a false police report, he told Bernama.

Abdul Rahim said the man had resorted to faking the kidnap due to gambling losses.
