Malaysia awarded safest country in SEA, 19th safest in the world
"Malaysia has been recognised as the safest country in Southeast Asia and 19th in the world, in the Global Peace Index (GPI) report for 2011, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein."
Published on 10th March, 2012, this headline was screaming the news. The Malaysians beamed with national pride and looked smugly at their southern neighbours. The Singaporeans were shocked and nonplussed after reading the news and the internet was buzzing with many questioning the findings. "Is it true?" they asked of each other, most having personal experiences or related to them of horrendous incidents whilst in Malaysia. So, what is the conclusion?
Here are 2 of the latest news I received that will give some meat for us to chew on.

JOHOR BARU: The charred remains found on Thursday at an oil palm plantation here at Nusa Damai in Masai has been confirmed as five year-old Nurul Nadirah Abdullah, or Dirang, based on DNA-test conducted by Chemistry Department.
Nur Nadirah
Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Roslan Zainuddin confirmed the charred remains as Nurul Nadirah, after sample taken from the remains matched her biological mother's Roselyn Alan, 25.
Roslan said the department confirmed at remains at the Sultan Aminah Hospital's mortuary were of the missing girl.
The charred remains found on Thursday in the plantation, is about 20KM away from the Seri Delima Flats four-storey walk-up flats at Bandar Seri Alam here, where Dirang shared with her mother, brother, step-sister, grandmother and her aunt.
Dirang, was reported missing on Mac 1, by her mother after she walked down alone to the grocery store downstairs, at the block next door to buy eggs and instant noddles.
Roselyn gave Dirang RM4 to buy eggs and two packets of maggie mee.
After 30 minutes, when Dirang failed to return, Roselyn, who is in confinement after delivering a baby girl recently, sent her six-year-old son to look for the girl, but was futile.
After looking for her in vain, a missing person report was lodged.

Missing man, daughter found dead
KUALA LUMPUR: A man and his daughter who had been missing for four days were found murdered in their house in Taman Kinrara, Puchong, here last night, police said today.
Serdang police chief Supt Abdul Razak Elias said the bodies of the 56-year-old man, a private sector retiree, and his 23-year-old daughter, a lecturer at a private institution in the Klang Valley, were found at 9.50 pm.
"The woman was found lying on her back on the floor with traces of blood on her mouth and the man was found lying face down on a bed with traces of blood on the body," he told reporters at the scene.
Abdul Razak said police were trying to establish the motive for the killing and did not rule out robbery as well as the man's Perodua Kenari car and two mobile phones were missing.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the man had sent his wife to their farm in Segamat, Johor, and returned to fetch his daughter.
"After not hearing from them for four days, the wife lodged a report at the Segamat police station on Sunday," he said.
The bodies have been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
A neighbour who wished to be known only as Kumar, 42, said the family kept to themselves. -- BERNAMA
So, will anyone really believe Malaysia is the 19th safest country in the world and the safest in South East Asia? One cannot believe in Independent Bodies any longer. I once believe that BBC was a very fair MSM, but since I read they were bribe by the Malaysian Government not to air negative reports about the country, I have concluded all these supposedly independent global bodies are also corrupted.
