<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->MORE than 50 guests got to sink their teeth into kurobuta pork and wagyu beef last night, after both Japanese meats were given the all-clear by the authorities here in May.
Guests, including National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan, were treated to flavourful dishes like braised pork and beef sashimi at Japanese Ambassador Makoto Yamanaka's Tyersall Road residence.
The buffet, whipped up by chefs from Akane Japanese Restaurant from the Japanese Association, marked the long wait by gourmands who have been hankering for the much sought after Japanese fare.
Singapore banned Japanese beef imports in 2001 during a mad cow disease scare there, and authentic kurobuta pork has not been available here till now.
Ever popular with meat-eaters, five tonnes of Japanese beef have been imported here since May.
And diners have already begun tucking into 450kg of kurobuta pork, which comes from a rare breed of pig whose meat is renowned for its marbling.
