A Vietnamese woman on holiday here was killed early this morning when a taxi made its way onto a narrow walkway in Geylang, and crashed into a pillar outside a shophouse pub.
The impact had been so great that a large chunk was knocked off when the taxi crashed into the pillar, says STOMPer Carol.
STOMPer Passer-by, who also passed by the scene this morning, says that the accident at Lorong 41 happened at around 4am today.
He says:
"A taxi crashed and got stuck along the walkway in front of a pub
"I heard from other onlookers that the accident happened at 4am today.
"Apparently a woman was killed and two others were injured".
STOMPer Carol says:
"My dad was driving and I was in the passenger's seat when we passed by the scene at 8:15am today.
"The police had closed off an entire lane and I saw no ambulances so the accident might have happened much earlier.
"An entire chunk of the column had come off.
"I wonder how the taxi ended up there and how they are going to get it out.
"I also wonder how it managed to drive through the walkway because it is a very narrow path".
Also wondering how the taxi ended up in the walkway, STOMPer Irenemoo says:
"How did the cab end up there? Notice the damage on the pillar."
The victim has been identified to be Ms Vul, a Vietnamese woman who is on holiday in Singapore.
The woman in her 30s was chatting with friends at a table outside the pub when the cab ploughed into them at about 4.15am.
The taxi driver, a man said to be in his 40s, suffered shoulder injuries. He has been arrested for causing death by a rash act.
