Mac sales surging

after official launch of the iphone 6 and ios 8 on september 9, mac sales will shoot thru' the roof as macs with yosemite version will work seamlessly like and with ios devices as though your mac is a desktop or laptop iphone or ipad. imagine surfing sbf on tonychat's treatise on going vegan and sadplumpgal calls. you can talk to sadplumpgal right away on your macbook without reaching for the iphone. plus, your macbook can act like your personal cloud in storing all the massive amount of pics and videos on fatso's such as bukia and sadplumpgirl which are taken on your iphone and ipad.

This strategy of Apple has actually made my life extremely difficult. In the good old days I could compartmentalise my life... ie I was Samuel Leong on one computer, Samantha Lim on another and me on the rest of my computing devices.

Now Apple keeps trying to merge all my identities so I've had to create numerous Apple IDs and I have to be careful where I plug in my phone for charging or backup or iOS will try to merge all my identities and synch my porn with photos of my pets.

that's valuable feedback for apple, as they have to accommodate apple fans with multiple persona and virtual identities who would like to keep them separate, distinct and compartmentalized. jumbling them all up together in a cloudy soup poses a headache for split personalities like us. my other id's are eatmyfifthhoof and pickledpigspheet. they are both pig-themed but exhibit totally opposite behaviors. one is halal, and the other not. i shall discuss your points with my good buddy at apple. he's one of the lead architects and designers of the mac system. and he runs a sinkie social cummunity in the bay area.

I am going to load up on AAPL shares based on this, betting my future on it. All in!

I couldn't have said it better. Last time I was Drifter on one computer and TFBH on another. Then Apple synced my identities and all hell broke loose. :-( :-( :-(

Maybe there is a Pin Guo working for Samsung in China?

there's a justin case who works for state farm insurance and a tess tickel who works in a urologist clinic. in sg, i can hear jack hammer making loud noises the moment i arrive in changi.

Some believe that the shares will increase in price. I'm hopping so but even if it doesn't I am getting a regular dividend of 47 cents a share. It used to be $3.29 before the share split 7 times.

It is more than what I will be getting from MY CPF:rolleyes:

This is lease of my problem, you should have different devices with different personality and then you colour code it.

yes, i'm carrying multiple devices with different identities for compartmentalization purposes. it's cumbersome but different devices for different strokes once mastered becomes very normal in life. ;)

Apple ushers in age of the scratch-proof screen with launch of iPhone 6

The iPhone 6 will make its first public appearance on September 9.

Screens that are close to unscratchable, and expected to be key selling points of the iPhone 6 when Apple unveils the latest model next month, are to go into large-scale production this month.

To create industrial quantities of man-made sapphire, the material already used to cover the fingerprint-sensing home button and camera lens on its phones, Apple has a US$578 million deal with manufacturer GT Advanced Technologies, which has built a plant powered by renewable energy in Mesa, Arizona.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5R0_FJ4r73s?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The iPhone 6 will make its first public appearance on September 9. Until now, Apple has relied on toughened glass, which can easily be shattered and marked. But screens already demonstrated by GT can withstand scratches from concrete. Its thin sapphire layers are flexible, potentially improving resistance to knocks and falls.

Apple is said to be preparing two new iPhone models, both with larger screens than their predecessors. The biggest is said to measure 13.75cm corner to corner, while the smaller iPhone will reportedly have a 11.75cm screen.

The Wall Street Journal claims Apple has ordered an initial batch of between 70 million and 80 million handsets, its biggest first-run production, to be sent out from factories in time for Christmas and new year.

GT chief executive Thomas Gutierrez told investors on a call this month: "The build-out of our Arizona facility, which has involved taking a 1.4 million square feet facility from a shell to a functional structure and the installation of over 1 million sqft of sapphire growth and fabrication equipment, is nearly complete and we are commencing the transition to volume production."

In yesterdays trading the price of Apple shares reached a new high. The last peak was achieved in 2012 after which it tumbled below $500.

Apple Soars to Record Amid Optimism About Coming Products
By Adam Satariano

Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s stock closed at an all-time high, surpassing a 2012 record as investors look ahead to new products such as bigger-screen iPhones and a wristwatch-like device that may jump-start revenue growth.

Apple rose 1.4 percent to $100.53, topping the split-adjusted record of $100.30 reached on Sept. 19, 2012, just before the iPhone 5 went on sale. The shares have gained 25 percent this year.

After rising more than sevenfold following the 2007 debut of its smartphone, Apple stock lost a third of its value in the year after the iPhone 5’s release on concerns that the company was running out of hit product ideas without co-founder Steve Jobs. The tenor has changed, with analysts estimating record sales for the next batch of iPhones, set to be released later this year.

Activist investor Carl Icahn, who had pushed Apple to buy back more of its own stock earlier this year, said the rise in the company’s share price validated his earlier claim that the iPhone maker was undervalued.

“All my chips still on the table and in fact increased position over past year,” Icahn said in a Twitter post. Icahn owns 52.8 million shares in Apple worth $5.3 billion, according to a recent filing.

In June, people familiar with the plans said Apple planned to start mass production on two smartphones with larger screens, a response to devices from rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co. and HTC Corp.
Spending Cash

The stock’s rise shows investors are buying into the strategy outlined by Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, who has been prodded to introduce bigger iPhones, give more money back to stockholders and introduce new devices.

Those shareholders are now getting what they want. In addition to the larger iPhones, Cook has vowed that Apple will enter a new product category this year. The company is said to be developing a smartwatch, and Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty has said Apple may sell as many as 60 million of the new wearable device in its first year on the market, adding up to $9 billion in revenue for fiscal 2015. Apple hasn’t commented on the prospect of larger iPhones or a possible smartwatch.

Cook also has been more open than Jobs was to using the company’s cash hoard to return money to shareholders. Apple is in the midst of a program to give back $130 billion through buybacks and dividends. He’s also been more active in acquisitions, including spending $3 billion to buy Beats Electronics LLC, the company’s biggest-ever purchase.

Modest Growth

Apple’s stock price makes it the world’s most valuable company -- more than 30 percent bigger than Exxon Mobil Corp., the second-largest by market capitalization.

The company also appears to be settled in to an era of modest earnings growth after last year reporting its first decline in a decade. On July 22, Apple reported its second straight profit gain as a rise in iPhone and Mac sales helped make up for a drop in iPad demand. Net income rose 12 percent to $7.75 billion, its biggest gain since 2012.

Meanwhile, Samsung, Apple’s biggest competitor, has seen its stock decline 8.6 percent this year. Earnings at the world’s largest maker of mobile phones have fallen for three consecutive quarters, pinched between competition with Apple for customers of high-end smartphones and Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi Corp. and Lenovo Group Ltd. for less-expensive models.

Apple hits $100 a share for first time since stock split
CNBC.com staff | @CNBC

Apple hit $100 a share during midday trading on Tuesday for the first time since its seven-for-one split in June.

The stock followed a general upward trend after the milestone, putting shares above their split-adjusted record close of $100.3 set on September 19, 2012, just shy of the split-adjusted all-time high of $100.72 from September 21, 2012.

At pre-split levels, individual shares traded just above $705 each in September 2012 and fell to trade near $600 in May of this year.

Shares have risen more than 8 percent since the split, when the stock opened near $92 a share. Apple shares had not traded below $100 each for five years.

Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 6 is expected this fall, with much speculation about the new device surfacing daily.

A Morgan Stanley note released Tuesday put a price target of $110 on the stock with an "overweight" rating, citing a potential boost from the iWatch, believed to be launched later this year.

Earlier this month, Apple completed its deal to acquire headphone maker Beats Electronics for $3 billion.

The company recently upgraded its MacBook Pro with retina display, as well as marked down its MacBook Air.

The Cupertino-based technology firm also continues to struggle with alleged labor violations at its manufacturing plants in Asia.

Another bloody news about delay

Macbook Air 12-inch Retina Display model tipped for a 2015 release date, rumor says

Saturday, August 02 2014

Apple fans may have to wait a little longer as the release date for a Macbook Air 12-inch Retina display model is allegedly pushed back to 2015, according to reports.

Rumor mills claim that the delay is caused by processor supply constraints in Taiwan.

However, the regular 11-inch and 13-inch variants will
arrive just as scheduled, as East Asia partners are already receiving parts and items for mass production.

The new set of Macbook Air 12-inch will carry a Retina display and Intel's Broadwell processor.

Intel also cleared the air and confirmed that they will be shipping Broadwell chips to partners including Apple:

"We said we would have products on shelves for the holiday season and we continue to work with our partners and we're on schedule to have product on shelf in the holiday," Brian Krzanich said.

What's the big deal about the 12"? I don't find the retina display to be much use either unless I peer at it through a magnifying glass.

The 11" macbook air is perfect for travelling. For everything else, I use a desktop model.

Read that the 12" and 11" are same as the 12" screen now covers almost the entire case.
