in developed societies.....conspicuous consumption is seen as being vulgar and crass. if a neighbour buys a top end S500 merc...more likely he will removed the badge as he does not want to flaunt it....

Other than its utility value, its got no value.
Our societies have developed a market for passion though. Oh well.
