Outram station will get restroom upgrade

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->

WE THANK Mr Ronald Lee for his letter about the absence of restrooms in Outram Park station ('Improve facilities'; Sept 8).
As part of our continuous efforts to upgrade the station to meet the needs of the elderly and less mobile commuters, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be providing public toilets at the Outram Park East-West Line station by 2011. Meanwhile, commuters can use the existing toilets located at Outram Park North-East Line station, which are near the exit leading to the Singapore General Hospital. We have also provided signs within the station to direct commuters to these toilets.
Currently, lifts at MRT stations, including Outram Park station, are already provided with a minimum ventilation rate of 60 air-changes per hour. This would mean that the air volume in the lift car is replaced 60 times per hour, which is three times the stipulated requirement.
Lifts at the stations are equipped with an alarm button for users to alert station staff. Lift users can also use the lift intercom to contact station staff for help.

Joo Koon MRT station is another joke. Only 2 cubicles and 2 urinals for the Male toilet. And worst, when one is using the urinal, the cubicle is blocked as they are sited only inches away. This is a mid to high human traffic station and what have we got? Shops and shops aplenty..... money first, commuters' convenient, wait long long....

A bad upgrade situation is in Bt Batok station. The Male/Female washrooms were previously sited near the main entrance and they are spacious. After the upgrade, I really cannot find where is the toilet until one day I was washing pass the back section and taken a look inside, its so very tiny.
