PEASANTPORE: Having two train disruptions over two consecutive days is "very fortunate as peasants can walk or cycle to work like their Nordic peasants", the Land Transport Arses (LTA) said on Monday (Mar 29).

LTA issued a spin response after incidents on two different MRT lines disrupted train services on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, the North-South Line experienced a signalling fault between Newton and City Hall stations, causing delays during the morning rush hour.

Affected peasants experienced a delay of about 45 minutes as trains had to be driven manually at a slower speed along the affected stretch, said LTA, adding that free bus services and bicycles were provided.

The Transport Arses blamed software issue with the signalling system.

"SMRT and Thales engineers rebooted the aging Disk Operating System PC after morning peak hour service," said LTA.

SMRT said earlier that there would be "a Ctrl-Alt-Del style of the signalling system and peasants will be be on their own" at 10am, with no trains running between Toa Payoh and Marina South Pier stations for about 15 minutes.

"Don't 'cry father, cry mother', since you peasants like Nordic socialism, why don't you guys cycle or walk to work huh? As one Minion pointed out, its silly for us to transport you peasants with expensive battery packs," said LTA.

The authority decline to offer any compensation for the inconveniences caused by the disruptions.

"To have two incidents over two days may cause you guys to grumble and moan but end of the day, PAP returns to power to screw you peasants. Those who complain saying that Hongkies and Taiwanese public transport are better will receive extra letters from IRAS soon," said LTA.

"If you guys are not happy, migrate to Iceland, we heard they got free sex before dating culture!"

Don't care about the MRT, more important for Sinkieland to be aviation hub.

The main purpose of the MRT is to bleed you dry with regular 'public transport fare revisions' and to raise the property and rent prices around the stations.

Everything else is of secondary importance.

how to be an aviation hub when MFA keeps on shunning other countries for travel bubble/corridor while simultaneously allowing foreigners to come in to SG easily?

SINGAPORE: Having two train disruptions over two consecutive days is "very unfortunate and frustrating", the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Monday (Mar 29).
LTA issued a response after incidents on two different MRT lines disrupted train services on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, the North-South Line experienced a signalling fault between Newton and City Hall stations, causing delays during the morning rush hour.
Affected commuters experienced a delay of about 45 minutes as trains had to be driven manually at a slower speed along the affected stretch, said LTA, adding that free bus services were provided.

Based on preliminary investigations, there was a software issue with the signalling system, said the authority.

"As a precaution to rectify the fault, SMRT and Thales engineers rebooted the system after morning peak hour service," said LTA.
SMRT said earlier that there would be "a reset of the signalling system" at 10am, with no trains running between Toa Payoh and Marina South Pier stations for about 15 minutes.
The system is now working normally and train services have resumed, said LTA.
The authority said it is working with SMRT and Thales to look into the root cause of the incident, and will provide an update once it has details from the investigation.

On Sunday, train service was disrupted on the North-East Line due to a power fault at the overhead catenary system at Buangkok station, which was caused by a faulty insulator, said LTA.
The overhead catenary system provides power to trains. The affected insulator on the system has been replaced, said the authority.
LTA added that train service resumed within three hours and has since been running smoothly.
"There is currently an ongoing programme to replace the insulators with a better designed version, and we are working with SBS Transit to accelerate replacement of the rest of the insulators by June," said LTA.

The authority apologised for the inconveniences caused by the disruptions.
"To have two incidents over two days is very unfortunate and frustrating. They occurred over two separate lines, each for different reasons," said LTA.
"We apologise for the inconveniences caused. We will have to continue to dive into root causes whenever incidents like these happen and take firm actions. Maintaining rail reliability will be a continuous task."

Signalling fault causes delays on North-South Line; commuters advised to make alternative travel arrangements

A signalling fault has resulted delays along the North-South MRT Line during the morning peak-hour commute on Monday (29 March).
According to a series of tweets posted on SMRT Corporation’s Twitter page, with the earliest being at 5.47am, it advised commuters to add 25 minutes to their travel time due to the delays. Subsequently, it increased this to 35 minutes, then 45 minutes in later tweets.
The fault, which occurred between Newton and City Hall MRT stations, has affected the MRT line for more than two hours.
In a Facebook post on Monday morning at 6.59am, SMRT Corporation wrote: “At the start of service this morning, a signalling fault occurred between Newton and City Hall on the North-South Line.”
It added, “Our engineers are working to rectify the fault. Trains are moving at a slower speed. Longer train travel time is expected.”
It also advised commuters to make alternative travel arrangements, which include taking other train lines to the city.
It also went on to state that free regular bus and bridging bus services are made available between Toa Payoh and Marina South Pier MRT stations, adding that it is sorry for the inconvenience caused to commuters.

In a latest tweet update, SMRT said at 9.48am that there will be a reset of the signalling system, and during this period there won’t be any train services between Toa Payoh and Marina South Pier stations for around 15 minutes.

The signalling fault on Monday is the second MRT fault in two days.
Just a day earlier (Sunday), train services between Punggol and Serangoon stations on the North East Line, which is run by SBS Transit, came to a halt for approximately three hours due to a power fault.

SINGAPORE — A software issue and faulty insulator were behind the train service disruptions on Monday (29 March) and Sunday, respectively, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
A signalling fault along the North-South Line (NSL) between Newton and City Hall MRT stations led to commuters experiencing delays of around 45 minutes, while a power fault at Buangkok MRT station led to a three-hour service disruption along the North East Line (NEL) on Sunday morning, said LTA in a news release.
The NSL fault led to trains being driven manually at a slower speed along the affected stretch, while free bus bridging services were also provided to commuters. LTA said that preliminary investigations showed that it was a software issue with the signalling system that led to the disruption.
"As a precaution to rectify the fault, SMRT and Thales engineers rebooted the system after morning peak hour service. It is now working normally and train services have resumed," said the authority. It added that SMRT and Thales, the French multinational company that supplied the NSL's signalling system, will look into the root cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, Sunday's incident along the NEL was due to a power fault at the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) – which supplies power to the trains – at Buangkok station, which was caused by a faulty insulator. LTA noted that trained service was resumed within three hours and has "since been running smoothly". It added that the affected insulator has also been replaced.
The authority said there is an ongoing programme to replace the insulators with a better designed version and that it is working with SBS Transit to accelerate the replacement of the remaining insulations by June.
"To have two incidents over two days is very unfortunate and frustrating. They occurred over two separate lines, each for different reasons. We apologise for the inconveniences caused," said LTA in the release.

Singapore — Many members of the online community have spoken out against an increase in public transport fares in light of two train disruptions this week.
Incidents on two different MRT lines disrupted train services on Sunday (Mar 28) and Monday (Mar 29).

According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday, the North-South Line experienced a signalling fault between Newton and City Hall stations, causing delays during the morning rush hour.
It added that affected commuters experienced a delay of about 45 minutes.

There were no train services between Toa Payoh and Marina South Pier for about 10 minutes after SMRT and Thales engineers reset the system at about 10 am.
On Sunday, train service was disrupted on the North-East Line due to a power fault at the overhead catenary system at Buangkok station, which was caused by a faulty insulator, said the LTA, adding that the issue took three hours to fix.
While the LTA said that having two train disruptions over two consecutive days is “very unfortunate and frustrating”, netizens were concerned for different reasons.

Many took to social media calling out Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung, who said on March 5 that the Government will continue to subsidise rail and bus operations, but the bill to taxpayers “cannot keep ballooning”.
Mr Ong said that the Government has been spending about S$1 billion a year to subsidise rail operations and another S$1 billion a year to subsidise bus operations, he pointed out.

“Train fares so far are not enough to cover these operating costs,” he said, adding that the situation is the same for buses.
Netizens called the possible fare hike “shameful”, adding that only the common man relied on public transport and would feel the pinch of fare hikes the most.
