An LRT commuter talking loudly on the phone was allegedly slapped by another passenger on the train and scolded by others.

Stomper Anonymous shared a video of the incident which took place on the Punggol LRT line on Nov 16, but the video doesn't show the slap.

He told Stomp that the commuter was already talking loudly when he boarded the train. This went on for a "good five minutes", according to the Stomper.

"The guy in the Adidas shirt went to slap the person on the head for talking loudly on the phone," recounted the Stomper.

"The person didn't hit back, but he was initially sitting down and then started yelling. After that, one of the ladies stood up and told the person to stop talking so loudly.

"I don't know if the guy in the Adidas shirt was related to the lady."

The Stomper said the confrontation ended when the person alighted.

In March, it was announced that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will step up enforcement against nuisance and disruptive commuter behaviour on our public transport.

Since December 2024, LTA and the public transport operators have progressively introduced new signage on public transport to encourage more considerate behaviour among commuters, including keeping noise levels down.

Commuters who display nuisance behaviour on trains, including those set out in the additional prohibition signage, may be issued a Notification of Offence under the Rapid Transit Systems regulations. The maximum penalty for each prohibited act is $500.

Public transport operators may also remove commuters who cause nuisance or activate the Police for more egregious cases.

Anton Casey who used to live in S'pore – left his Porsche at the workshop, forcing him to take the MRT. It was good for him to see how the other half lives.
