A man who murdered his lover after she blurted out another man’s name as they had sex was jailed for life by a court in Manchester, UK on Tuesday.
Gary Higgs, 44, was making love with Joanne Kitchen, 41, on April 13 this year, when she suddenly cried out: "Chris, harder!"
Enraged by jealousy, Higgs stormed downstairs to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed Joanne in the back and chest.
He then strangled her with the electrical cable of their alarm clock.
He told police: "I asked her why she said Chris but she said she must have been thinking about her daughter’s boyfriend Chris."
I don’t remember thinking that I wanted to harm Jo, but I was just so mad."
Higgs pleaded guilty to murder at Manchester Crown Court. Judge Andrew Gilbart, who ordering Higgs to serve 15 years before he could be considered for release.
"You have shown some, but not much, remorse. This is a case of an unreasonably possessive man killing his lover in a rage."
Joanne, who left behind two daughters and two grandsons, apparently met Higgs early last year on Facebook.
They both later split from long-term partners and Higgs moved from Telford, Shropshire, into Joanne's rented flat in Radcliffe, Manchester last December.
The relationship was strained by financial pressure as Higgs struggled to find work and Joanne working as a security officer at a college.
The murder happened after Joanne was driven home from work by one of her daughters, Rebecca, 20, and Rebecca’s boyfriend Christopher James.
