SINGAPORE: Singapore's former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew does not think a more populist form of government would have to emerge as a result of the general election in May.
Replying to questions on Singapore's political scene at the Russia-Singapore Business Forum, Mr Lee said losing one group representation constituency (GRC) is not a disaster for the country.
He believes it's a change in mood among the electorate and much will depend on the performance of the opposition.
Mr Lee said the electorate has decided to bring competition to the political scene and unless the competition is good, he does not think the trend would continue.
He said an opposition victory in an area is not a given, and it would depend on how the opposition behaves and the government responds.
On another question to relax conditions to give permanent resident status, Mr Lee said for the time being the government has to go slow on this, because Singaporeans don't want to find strange faces around them.
But he feels the situation may change when Singaporeans grow older and need people to look after them, like nurses, and that's when views of admitting foreigners would change.

Are you saying that there will be no 4th Generation PM for Kee Chiu but Opposition leader instead?
To put it bluntly, LKY is the disaster today. If you balance the costs and gains today, he is the root of disaster. You take away the human factor and go back to 1970s, yes he generated some overall value, albeit overly exaggerated for political capital. Well, dead lost souls sacrificed is done almost worldwide.
Now, he is pure liability. All the funds stashed away is worth nothing in the first place if a proper functioning system is not in place here. And it is more than just the seedy bookkeeping.
SINGAPORE: A collection of former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's speeches, interviews and dialogues over four decades has been launched on Friday.
Published by Cengage Learning, it is drawn from the collections of the National Archives of Singapore, as well as materials deposited over time from the office of the Press Secretary to Mr Lee, and the former Singapore Broadcasting Corporation.
It's also taken from agencies such as the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
Cengage Learning said the intent of publishing the collection is to give readers a better understanding of Mr Lee's role in the founding and development of modern Singapore.
Areas covered include Mr Lee's views and statements on Singapore's separation from the Federation of Malaysia, independence, Singapore's nation-building process and leadership succession.
Speaking at the launch of 'The Papers of Lee Kuan Yew', Mr Lee said whether for reflection or scrutiny, the papers capture issues and decisions that were both popular and unpopular, but necessary for the time.
And the compilation of his speeches may allow Singaporeans to understand the history in nation building, and more importantly to learn the lessons from the past.
He stressed that Singaporeans have to understand the underlying values on which the nation was built.
Many of the interviews in the publication are being released for the first time.
The 10 volumes cover more than 5,000 pages of text and nearly 500 photographs.
In his foreword, former US Secretary of State Dr Henry Kissinger wrote: "The volumes are an indispensable source for the thinking of one of the seminal thinkers of our period."
The collection is available in a case-bound edition at US$2,800, and a leather bound limited edition at US$3,600.
The next series of Mr Lee's works will cover his term as Senior Minister to the present, and is planned for release in the last quarter of next year.
I'm not saying but I'm hoping and praying that there will be a day after GE2016 oppo is the ruling party.

Every Ministry is run like a private company with profit in mind. But every private govt link organization is run like a govt department with top down control. How not to get into serious trouble?

That would be putting too many eggs in one basket. Some eggs might drop off or the basket might overturn.
