We all have our reasons to move or not. Our kids school within walking distance, good friends within the neighbourhood and other community support which will be harder to get once we are in jb.

Actually community support is not hard to get here. In my last one year here, I have made numerous friends here from among my neighbours and in church of which some are true blue Singaporeans, Permanent Residents ,local Johoreans and even expatriates .We had good chats and conversations and each has a story to tell. Life has been really eye-opening and interesting.

Thought i chip,

Have been living in JB for the past 3 years +, i do have young kids who attend childcare in SG. Usually we leave home at 8ish and reach my kids childcare by 9-915. I reach office at 10-1030. Life pretty much didn't change for us, except for my boss who was seeing me in office later then usual....Blessed to have an understanding boss.

I have to agree with some regarding the traffic situation, on days when i need to go to work early, i don't allow my kids to come back to JB the night before, they will stay over at my in laws. This is to avoid having them wake up at 5am just so i can be on time for work. This is the CON of staying in JB for me.

Well the next phase of the JB test is coming up for me... my kids needs to attend primary school next year in SG. After pondering over the various options we have decided to put him in an international school in JB instead of a school in SG. I don't wish to debate over the SG or MY school system, to each his own. With that settled, my schedule will be back to normal and i don't have to worry about my early morning meetings anymore as I will go early without dragging my kids along. For those we need to know, my wife will be the one who looks after the kids, currently she is working and by the times the kids need to go school, she will stop work.

To be honest, I have met many people who have questioned what i did and vice versa, me question why they like or dislike living in SG. It seems that there is no real answer to that question. Go with what you feel is right... don't let others sway your thought as we all have different views, salary, parents, the list is goes on......what matters is U.

Before i sign out....just a thought! Something i see on the airplane safety video which i think some what applies to life.

Agree with you. Just as my kids love my JB HOmE and the FANTASTIC LIVING EXPERIENCE IT PROVIDES, they are not keen on v daily grind.

as kids I won't give them a chance to complain nor do they complain but I feel that Do not like it

if it is a situation of loss of job or low income, then it is no choice but if it is to maximise income, the children may not mind now but they may resent when they grow up?

Good one.

Sleeping along corridors, sleeping in air conditioned tents is first world living isnt it?

lol..

People in developing countries pay much lesser than even our C ward's n hv better care/rooms/consultants.

It is indeed annoying when the hospitals are bursting at the seams with people sleeping at the corridor and they make this kind of ten or twenty year announcements.

I agree with the view that there is no need to debate SG vs MY system.

China has space scientists, research engineers, man in space, what not.

We are still trying to build tiny satellities / mrts that are break down proof etc

we can't even be assured of Good jobs.

Yes ur right there is no real answer. not is there a right or wrong. We must go with what we believe as right.

We may hv a final destination in mind. There are many paths that lead to it.

We may or may not lead our intended destination.

then again a destination for one is not a destination for another.

And who ever said one must Attain all these riches or reach an intended goal?

Nice post 29ers

Haha if I pay Rm1 for medical fee, I wouldn't mind sleeping at the corridor of the hospital nor waiting for 6 months to see specialist...

Drought-hit Malaysian state rations water
POSTED: 25 Feb 2014 15:06
UPDATED: 25 Feb 2014 22:47

Authorities began rationing water to thousands of households in Malaysia's most populous state on Tuesday, as a dry spell depletes reservoirs across a country normally known for its steady tropical downpours.

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities began rationing water to thousands of households in Malaysia's most populous state on Tuesday, as a dry spell depletes reservoirs across a country normally known for its steady tropical downpours.

Much of Malaysia has been under bone-dry conditions for a month and high temperatures have left some reservoirs at "critical" levels, sparking an increase in bushfires and leading to protests in at least one hard-hit community near the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia does tend to experience dry weather early in the year, but the current dry spell has been unusually long.

The lack of significant rainfall has caused increasing alarm, particularly in the state of Selangor, which surrounds Kuala Lumpur, and adjacent areas, as meteorologists have warned the dry patch could last another month.

Selangor is Malaysia's most populous state and its economic and industrial hub.

Water rationing in the state will affect an estimated 60,000 households, according to the Selangor's private water company.

A Selangor local government spokeswoman said the state was reducing the flow to four water treatment plants "until the weather improves".

"The reduction of water will start today," she told AFP. "What we need now is the rain."

Authorities have said planes are on standby to conduct cloud-seeding, but the spokeswoman said the effort has been hampered by inadequate cloud formation.

Residents in the Selangor town of Balakong have complained for weeks about taps running dry and last week about 200 residents staged a protest calling on authorities to provide water, according to reports.

"We spend over 20 ringgit ($6) a week at the dhobi now," said housewife Norizan Nasim, using the local name for someone who washes people's clothes.

"But what can we do, we can't afford to shift from here," added Nasim, who is currently travelling an hour each day to fetch water from a river.

The state of Negeri Sembilan, adjacent to Selangor, last week declared a water crisis, mobilising to supply treated water to thousands of households.

The hot spell has also contributed to more cases of dengue fever as it speeds up the life cycle of the aedes mosquito that carries the virus and enhances replication of the pathogen, experts say.

Deaths from the flu-like illness have risen to 25 this year, compared with just eight in the same period last year, according to the latest Health Ministry figures.

The number of cases has also quadrupled to some 14,000 so far this year. The World Health Organisation calls dengue one of the fastest-growing viral threats globally, especially in the tropics.

I was quoted $4-5000 for root canal at NDC.

I did it overseas for just $300 during my holiday.

The hospital was 5* with super specialists in attendance. EVEN with airfare it won't be 4~5,000

I did my root canal treatment last year in a nearby dental clinic in Sg for about S$300. Why is it so expensive in NDC?

root canal plus cap ~ $4-5000.

This was what I was quoted.

And they replied coz it's done by specialists.

300?? Are you sure??

Even when I did a root canal in 1999 @ NTUC DENTICARE cost me close to $2000+

excluding crown cost.

crown cost is based on material.

so roughly around NDC cost.

it's based on no of canals I think?? I dunno.

Even Moh website lists NDC crown fee at an average of 700+.

But then that's d average fee and when I visited them in 2002 I was told it depends on material etc.

currently im using 3M crowns @ 300 n rct @ 150 approx overseas.

I would not trade those lovely docs for the Spore docs.

Mine just one tooth gave me problems and no crowning required tho I needed to go for several visits but total cost was S$300+. It is a neighbourhood clinic and I don't think she is a specialist.

My humble opinion bro... no crowning cannot.

After some time tooth will fracture... then must fit denture.

Or is it just scaling, cleaning cavity and filling?

From what I know root canal must crown.

Me too. I've identified the nearest RC church to the area I'm planning to move to (Permas/Senibong) as St Joseph's at Plentong although I've not attended mass there before. The Sacred Heart cathedral seems to be an alternative.

When I first moved to Johor, I had a hard time finding a church.

Finally I found The Cathedral of The Sacred Heart.

Those days no aircon.

Very hot..

Now they have aircon freezing cold.

0745am English mass.

Mandarin later.

Fr. Lionel Pretty good with his homilies.

At Immaculate Conception which I first visited I even attended two language mass Bahasa n Eng.

Now I go there for 07:00am English mass. The Chinese father who preaches sometimes at the07:00am service is pretty good. In fact really good.

I went all d way to Masai too and found a small church there.

I'm looking for something nearby even if a small chapel will be good.

But dun Hv.

Hi sis,... Sorry abt d bro thingie.

Yes, urs was an RCT.

NO idea why no Crown?

Crowning is a must to prevent tooth fracture.

One more thing since the heady days of pre 2002 ..... In a more open singapore where ppl are more aware GP prices Hv remained steady post 2002 or a few years after that.

Some Hv even reduced prices slightly.

It took about 45min x 4 visits and she cleaned my cavity multiple rimes with narrow wires and filled it . The clinic called it root canal treatment....btw, I am a sis....
