To bypass the vehicle jam in morning and evening, what do you think of the following tactic?

Morning scenario

1. Drive Car from home to park at City Square (buy season parking, not sure how much)
2. Walk over to CIQ clear customs
3. Take bus to Woodlands customs clearance
4. Ride Bike to work from Woodlands (buy HDB season parking at Woodlands near chkpt)

Evening "pang kang" reverse the process.

Would the above ruse work? Would it be worth the money (buying season parking in City Square, or other nearby malls) and hassle (up and down vehicle, walk though customs, take bus, human squeeze etc) to do this? Would it save time? Or would it raise blood pressure? Anyone trying this already? It looks like I may have to begin this in a couple of weeks' time if this is a favourable plan.

Just checked recently, City Square season parking are already in high demand with a long waiting list and priority are given to tenants and shop owners.
The nearest available season parking is at the Persada Convention Centre, about 15 mins. walk away from the CIQ

The weekday morning jam is ard 30-45 mins (say you reach chkpt ard 745 am), while the evening jam is around 60-75 mins (say u reach woodlands betw 6-8 pm). I think the problem is with the evening jam. One way is to go via causeway in the morning, and go back via 2nd link in the evening.

Sorry, the jam you were referring to is human jam or traffic jam? I think you meant traffic. Anyway, what do you think of my proposed tactic? Would I save time overall? More hassle perhaps, but if I can chop significant time off, maybe worth the trade-off?

Will it be cheaper and less hassle to share a room at Woodland for say 350 per pax ?

As morning traffic jam only ard 30-45 mins, I think its not worth it. Human jam not necessarily faster also. Evening time may be more worth it, but travelling via 2nd link can save you the time too.

Live in JB, work in SG and rent a room in Woodlands for weekdays stay as a cheaper solution???
Then why bother to live in JB and ask for all this hassle?
Stay put in SG and there will be no hassle.

That would defeat the purpose of buying the house in JB. I only want to explore ways of beating the jam. Since I have bike and car, maybe can try combo approach.

Unless u r self employed or a retiree, I dun c a point making urself suffer at e jam. A bike might clear e jam at half e time.

Hi,

Does anyone knows if there would be any upcoming New homes (clusters) near Tuas around the Myr 1m mark?
Leisure Farm's Semi D is over budget. Sunway?

Ok, I have been thinking for quite some time why nobody had tried or talked about this method before and I stumbled across this thread of yours. Do post yr experience to enlighten us. I had tried a couple of times going into JB via causeway and parked my car at Woodlands, and taking the bus across to JB to avoid some bad causeway jam and jump into the car of housing agents to view the houses. It generally took around 20 minutes to clear the causeway and both immigration no matter how jammed the car traffic was. It set me thinking should I decide to stay in my house in JB and travel into S'pore daily, could I buy a M'sian car and park at CIQ and hop onto the bus across causeway, then jump into my Singapore car parked at Woodlands and drive to town. Of course I realised that the trick was to get seasoned parking at both ends. Any advice?

I started an FAQ in another thread but as there seems to be alot of news lately and questions coming fast, so sharing what little i know:

1. DIBS will likely be scrapped, a bank starting with P has already done so but not the rest of the banks. This will depend on Bank Negara's plans and timeline.
The thing is, even if scrapped, quite a few of the developers would still rebate 3% back to their sellers when they get their keys as a kind of move in bonus. It may actually work out better financially for some if DIBS is scrapped.

2. The RM 1m limit for foreigners has NOT been implemented yet, it is still RM 500k as of today and it still needs to go through a few levels before being approved.

3. At least certain developers bumi-release units are still being purchased and approved currently, just that there is going to be a 7.5% increase in the price. Some developers will help to bear at least a portion of this. Market rate currently is about 3% that the developer may help to cover.

4. GST when implemented will hit primarily the commercial properties. Residential properties are outside of this but with the cost of transportation, labour and materials being hit by GST, it will impact the cost of the developers who will pass it on to their customers.

5. Please remember when buying properties, even condos:

a. Residential title versus commercial title = Aside from density restrictions, residential title condos usually have:
i. Lower maintenance fees even taking into account the sinking fund.
ii. Much lower utilities as compared to commercial titled units

b. Leasehold - When buying leasehold, try to find out if the lease that the developer has is from the government or a private company. Particularly if the land is actually freehold but leased from a private company. There are usually less restrictions financially wise but more restrictions when renewing the lease comes.

Actually this has been discussed before, quite a few was has been discussed including parking at Harbour front and taking ferry to Puteri Harbour and then having a Malaysian car parked there and use that to drive yourself home.

Else park at Jurong East and take CW3 bus in, stop at the Giant at Nusa Bestari (Near Nusa Duta/Alliance/RHB bank) and grab your MY car or bike there to get home.

Another one is to buy an MY car, start a company and hire a company driver, get an employment letter or card for him and use that to drive into SG daily.

There are many iterations to this, many people use Jusco for parking their vehicles and jumping onto the CW3 bus. I noticed CW5 stopping at Newton area as well.

Some folks even suggested using convertible air/amphibious vehicles but that probably will never be, at least in our lifetime.

CW1 Larkin Bus Terminal <--> Kotaraya <--> Kranji MRT Station
CW2 Larkin Bus Terminal <--> Queen Street
CW3 Perling Mall -- Bukit Indah -- Jurong East Bus & MRT Interchange
CW3S Terminal TUTA <--> CIQ 2nd Link
CW4 Pontian - Gelang Patah - Jurong East
CW4S Sutera Mall <--> Gelang Patah <--> Jurong East
CW5 Johor Bahru Customs <--> Newton Circus
CW6 Bukit Indah < -- > Boon Lay
