it took Alex about 10 years to win a title and build his foundation.

10 years? Not that long. He took over as manager in 1986 and won the old European Cup Winners Cup in 1991 (against Barcelona under John Cryuff), and won his first EPL in 1993. Since then, hardly look back.

so who after Alex for Man Utd ???
no successor in sight, who know they may also suffer the same fate with Liverpool after Alex retires.
he also cannot go on forever.
we shall see what will happen after he retires.

That's an interesting question for Manchester United. Liverpool had Bob Paisley after Bill Shankly was gone, but lost the plot after Bob Paisley was gone. Manchester United should think about it.

ok,my mistake about the year he take over as manager. so it is 1986.
the first trophy he won was the FA Cup in 1990 in a replay against Crystal Palace. So from 1986 to 1989,three without anything,it took him awhile to built the team's foundation for his success.

It saved under-pressure manager Alex Ferguson from losing his job

the above is a statement on the official Man Utd website. The 1990 FA Cup win saved him. And it took him another 3 years to win his first League Title. So overall, about 7 years for him to build a team capable of winning the title and build from there onwards.

Think so. The 1990 FA Cup win and the 1991 Euro Cup Winners Cup bought him some more time. The loss of the league title in 1992 to Leeds United under Howard Wilkinson was catastrophic, only cushioned by the earlier mentioned silverwares. Anyway, Sir Alex made good with the time by finally winning the league title in 1993. Very smart and shrewd, bought Eric Cantona over from Leeds United.

I don't think that is entirely correct. The famous Reds 'boot room' coach staff started by Shanks remained intact even after Paisley retired. The problems started to occur only at the end of Kenny's reign as manager, after that it was unfortunately downhill all the way with the rise of the 'spice boys':(

As for tonight's match, the Reds stand a chance but they have to take their chances in front of goal and attack with width supplied by Babel.

Rafa's a total legend...

See how he humbly shook hands with whiskey-nose at the end of the game?

In victory or in defeat, Rafa's remains humble... unlike certain, or even most managers, who happily shake hands when they win, & walk away in a huff in defeat...

Sweet, sweet, sweet. Looking at Fergie's face fat black face was priceless and he was right to say that Man U played conference league footie, well at least after the first 20 mins (before then I thought same old bloody story after the Berba Tevez tie up goal and apart from Evra who I thought was outstanding)

The best thing is not so much the victory itself but the fact that the Reds showed the tenacity courage resilience and skill to come back from such an early devastating goal to bounce back and then control the game. And imagine all this without Stevie G (for the better part of the game) and El Nino, that certainly says alot and sends a clear signal to the other Big 3.

Liverpool's left flank with Aurellio, Riera and later Babel looked particularly outstanding, Marsch was brilliant, Keano was robbed of a goal chance, and Kuyt ran his heart out as usual (although I hope he improves on his goal strike skills), not forgetting Pepe who kept goal brilliantly as well when needed. The only average Red was Yossi who I think should be given the boot by Rafa as I think he is just CMI.

This could well be our season chaps, 18 years is along time coming, but fingers crossed. Come on you Reds:smile:
