Liver biopsy: any one done it before?

My FB did a cervic biopsy..........not sure if any similarities....
Day surgery over in an hour and up and running immediately.

Is there a need for you to do the biopsy? You might want to do the non-invasive type such as ultrasound or the blood test, which they will extract a blood sample to check on your hepatitis profile. The blood test may indicate any abnormalities of your liver if any.

Thanks! The doc wants me to do a biopsy to see whether can wait for new meds or start a present med. But the meds are too expensive. It makes me hesitant whether I shld do biopsy or not. If I do it, then found out that the liver is quite bad but I still can't afford the meds, I will feel very sad. Not sure I can qualify for medifund or medical social service as I still draw a decent salary. But the price of the meds at present is quite out of my reach

What is wrong with your liver? From what I know, most biopsies is to check for cancer. But you can go for blood test to check the cancer marker first.

Any biopsy is a bad thing, as it is INVASIVE and painful, as it is taking a piece of tissue out of your liver.

In such a case, I recommend you go for 2nd opinion, but do not mention the 1st doctor. MOST doctors are hesitant to denounce another doctor's diagnosis. That's a fucking big problem here in Singapore hospitals (private & public, all the same).

I wanted to try a new medicine, but it is very expensive. Doc says do a biopsy and see whether is very damaged or not. If not, can wait for new medicine. The present medicine is 157 dollars a day and need to take with two other medicine. Probably 5-6k per month, for a one year treatment

Thanks. I was going to make the suggestion of getting a second opinion from countries like Malaysia or Thailand.

With the information on prices in Spore people can do their own price comparisons with other countries. Sporeans must realize that medicine in Spore is now a business & they can shop around for better price. Even if you have medisave you can always save it for the future when you need it.

This is bad advice. They are not car salesmen or real estate agents. A 2nd opinion is a an institutionalised practice that is welcomed by the medical profession as it an important validation check. Your case file is called for and all prior treatment and medications is closely looked at.

If Sharpener dos not reveal these things, the doctor is certainly going to question him and I am sure he is not going to lie about medication and past procedures.

Only housewives offer this kind of bad advice.

Doctors are known to suggest a 2nd opinion as 2 minds are better than one. Even Insurance companies ask for 2nd opinions.

Where there is a conflict, they will refer to an known medical authority for a resolution.

A doctor's biggest issue is not a second opinion but family members advising the patients to visit quacks, charlatans and faith healers.
