It's still a good two years from 2016. Why is he 'declaring interest' to stay on now?

Could it be that he is perceived as a weak link within the PAP, and his superiors are thinking of removing or transferring him?

It quite unusual as I don't think there are ministers/MP who could made such bold declaration so soon (other than old fart) before the party make their decision. I suppose PAP had already asked this clown to defend East Coast GRC despite his age. It quite apparent that

1.EC GRC will be the main battleground for the next GE and the party anxious to prevent it from becoming another Aljunied.

2.PAP hedging it bet on the safer side by banking on experience and someone familiar to the voters there.

If the ground sentiment really improve, they would probably retire LSS and let someone else helm the GRC. Why still need to depend on an old guard? I think the margin is still really too close for comfort.
