Lily Neo to become Minister of MCYS?

I was chatting with a friend and he made the remark that by looking at the way PAP trying to portray Dr. Lily Neo upfront as the main anchor of Jalan Besar, he predicted that Yacoob will be asked to retire while Lily Neo will be promoted to minister.

The best portfolio for Lily Neo will be MCYS. Yes, let her help the PAP government spend more money on the vulnerable group! What will happen to Vivian? Well, go and take care of the rubbish.. oh.. Yacoob's portfolio.

Frankly, I feel that who moves where and takes over what portfolio should be irrelevant to you. your sole focus should be to put them out of a job by winning.

We have many MPs in Parliament. Isn't it sad that Lily Neo attracted our attention only coz of what she said? The rest of the MPs blind and deaf, I suppose.

If the very comments echoed by Lily Neo came from the opposition, would we praise them too? Or, it is expected of them? No other MPs supported Lily Neo? Then Lily Neo must be a liar coz the majority don't agree with her. Or the other way around - Lily Neo is right, the rest are idiots.

Who runs the ministries really? Not the ministers. The Perm Secs are the people running the show while the minister is just for show. Ministries do not require ministers. They can go on long leave and the system keeps moving.

Examine some ministries and you will come to the conclusion that some Perm Secs are more capable than their immediate boss- their minister, minister of state, parl secs.

So, whether Viv B goes over to Defence doesn't matter. We have had average ministers in Defence previously. Can you recall any incident whereby our Minister of Defence was called upon to make a life or death decision in the past? I can't. Are our generals strong?

Do we really know who are the capable ones, just from reading what ST tells us? Try putting your pet cat, dog or goldfish as a minister and see what happens. Headed by Mr Dog or Mr Cat or Mr Goldfish, that ministry will still exist and continue. And we need not pay these pets salaries, just provide them their makan will do.

You all won't know Captain Auntykiller through these forum postings. His English is technically not bad (otherwise how to pass NUS Econs. Hons.) However, when he thinks in Chinese and writes in English, the expression wouldn't match the impression.

In GE 2006, even Cynthia Phua got worried that Captain Auntykiller was going around Kovan stealing her aunties' votes support base when he went walkabout. He could convince any aunty or young lady to board his van for a ride effortlessly where other men need to be very handsome or glib-tongued or have big expensive cars.

He that desperate? Aunty he wants also? white van, with curtains, can drive to top level of multi story car parks or some remote car park & later the van rock side to side? , is that what you are saying they board the van for?

That is what I had said, "Does it matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice" ( guess who, said this?).

The focus should be presenting to the people with a credible alternative to what they have been used to be getting in their daily lives; it is not easy to convince them; who had been mesmerized for so long, under the stares of the papygods...

But instead of doing that, he go discussing on who should be replacing VIVIEN?, what will he be offering?, if he takes over the MCYS position, that would be an interesting option or replaces MBT in MND?

Not that I wanting to shoot the oppositions, but what can GMS offer? other than promising to run the ward well???

Agreed. Putting cart before the horsey. Priority for GMS and all Opp parties is to get the numbers in first. Grab as many seats as poss in parliament.

Canvas on being a more genuine voice, hard working ward-en, championing people's issues , checking the govt against excesses of power, policy, laws etc.

They dont seem to have a clue about the depth and breadth of government and how entrenched the PAP is as an institution in the minds of the people.

Very true.

But no minister will ever say he is not really taking care of the ministry, just as no PAP MP will ever say he/she is not really taking care of the ward. Truth is, the buck stops with him.

The PAP version is that when the ministry cocks up, all the junior officers get fired, demoted, etc, but the minister himself goes unscathed. Mas Selamat + WKS.

That is plain wrong. Voters & opposition leaders must demand accountability. The minister is ultimately accountable to parliament and to the electorate. If his ministry screw up big time, he must get lost.

Thick Face Black Heart: You succinctly summarised the entire civil service and how it works, especially when things screw up.

The higher you are, the less accountable you are. Your subordinates take the rap for you. Truly an iron rice bowl, unbreakable whatever the error. Even if it caused international embarassment.

If you aren't that high up, but on-the-way up (up and coming scholars), it's your immediate boss who must take the rap. A scholar's immediate boss would get blamed for "failure to provide proper guidance or supervision". It has happened, is happening and will long continue to happen.

But when there is credit and glory involved, bet your life and your entire family's that there will be a long queue from Jurong to Changi awaiting their rewards which come in various forms - promotions, commendation certs, overseas trip, pat on the shoulder, verbal praise etc. The top gets the best reward. The ones at the bottom may get a lunch treat! Or a day off.

When Lily Neo first entered politics, taking over from Yeo Ning Hong, she WAS NOT politically sensitive. Her hubby Dr Ben Neo would drive her to and from Kim Seng CC for Meet-The-People sessions in his .............. motor vehicle. No GRC then.

Lily Neo was subsequently advised not to be too flashy. I mean the automobile used by her hubby. The advise came from higher-ups, not the grassroots.

There is no right or wrong here. The money earned by the couple was not unlawful or illegal. They are doctors! And Ben makes good money at Mt E. He isn't the only specialist driving cars we can only admire.

Is there the need to hide what you have legally made just to appear humble, sympathetic, with the constituents etc. No wonder politicians aren't well respected in many 1st world countries unlike doctors, judges and even firemen.
