......... and then you die.
Further proof of this is the fact that people get nastier as they get older.
Have you noticed this?
Old people these days are getting more and more unpleasant, and it's not just the poor. The rich ones are getting more and more sly and rude.
Other than physical deterioration, you would expect people to get more refined, courteous and considerate as they get older, being wiser and having learnt more things from living longer. But the opposite seems to be the case, which is proof that living is really a difficult thing to do.

You're obviously not well informed. Grumpiness is a hallmark of an advanced civilization.

Grumpiness is a sign of advanced civilisation

The Victor Meldrews of this world should take heart – their grumpiness could be down to being higher up the evolutionary ladder than people who are easy-going.

By Richard Alleyne (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/journalists/richard-alleyne/) , Science Correspondent

Researchers now believe that being aggressive, intolerant and short-tempered could be a sign of a more advanced nature. A more childlike attitude to behaviour such as tolerance and sharing, could, in contrast, be an indication of not being as developed, the new study suggests.

The news will be welcomed by those who are known to operate on a short fuse, such as talented but foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay and businessman Sir Alan Sugar.

It could also provide scientific weight to the writer George Bernhard Shaw's famous saying that "all progress depends on the unreasonable man".

Researchers looked at two different kinds of monkey – the familiar chimpanzee and the less evolved but much more easy going bonobo, two of the closest living relatives to human beings.

Chimpanzees are accepted as more evolved than bonobos in terms of physical appearance, behaviour and social structure. But chimps are also much more aggressive, particularly as they get older, when they become less tolerant of each other, share less and show more signs of violence to others.

Adult bonobos, on the other hand, are more Peter Pan-like. They retain the same levels of playfulness and behaviour they showed as juveniles, said the research by Harvard University for the online journal Current Biology.

The two types of ape are very close to each other, genetically, but the clear differences are believed to be down to simple evolution, said lead researcher Victoria Wobber.

Her team put both chimps and bonobos through a variety of skill tests with rewards for those who completed various tasks the quickest. They included a sharing exercise and a begging exercise in which they had to work out which of their keepers was most generous. In all cases the chimps learnt the tasks fastest and to their better advantage.

She believes that the ability to "restrain" their sociability was one of the reasons they were more intelligent and more civilised. She said: "Bonobos took longer to develop the same skill level shown even among the youngest of the chimpanzees that were tested.

"It seemed as if adult chimpanzees were able to exhibit more social restraint than adult bonobos."

She believes that humans being even more advanced are likely to exhibit even more adult like behaviour.

"If we can understand the evolutionary processes by which developmental changes occurred in bonobos, perhaps inferences can be made about our own species' evolution," he said.

Life is hard but people make it harder. When a child is born, the first thing they do is cry. Hypothetically I believe they sensed the destiny they are about go through is going to be hardship if not misery. What ever it is, grow up and when you reached the destination all the answers wil be there.

People are problems, isn't that true?
If it's true that life is hard, why are some people so anxious to prolong their lives?
And since life is so hard and people get more nasty as they grow older, what's the point of conservation?
Would it be better if the human race were simply allowed to go into extinction?

Grumpiness is the hallmark of discontent and dissatisfaction.
The question is: Why are people always discontented and dissatisfied?

I had no straight answers to all your questions. But believe me, what people feared is death. Conquer fear and you shall conquer death. When you can manage that than nothing else matters more, when the time comes lie down and go, simple as that.

What the hell with all the craps about problems. Just avoid sinkies and all your problems are solved.

If life is not hard, how would one recognise what is happiness, much less learn to fight for it? :)

PAP must have governed SG so well in the past that the people no longer know how to stand up for themselves.

You had just missed the bus Ng Teng Fong was on. He could have given you an answer you if he was willing to. When should one stop and say he has more than enough.:)

of course, life is hard when one keeps waking up with a wet dream and an erection.

yeah, I can vouch for that, look at equalisation now :)

life is a mystery. karma if there is? i heard stories of people who died in their sleep, some suffer from cancer and died painfully. some has not done evil in her whole life and yet have to be tortured by cancer.why is it like that>no one knows. another story of a flamboyant doctor in his early days, went around with many women and now in his sixties, suffer from stroke and ironically, he used to be a sportsman.

anyway, i believe that there is a connection between wealth and health. some poor people may have good health while rich may not have. anyway, i am doing my best to make more money in pocket and i may not be happy but i know at the end of the day, i can use money to throw at people i dislike!
wahaha...:D

Ironically, many people are not as fearful to die all together than dying alone.

Life is hard. True. The day you accepted religion, you accepted suffering.

Almost all religion started with it founder suffering...

Jesus, Prophet Mohd, Budhha, etc....

People think that suffering will make one better so many choose to suffer and hopefully they will become wiser?

Most people live on hopes and dreams. Many have achieved contentment which allows one to live in peace and personal happiness. It is not how wealthy, famous or how much power one has as all these do not guarantee inner peace and contentment. I believe one has to look deep within oneself to find the answers for if you know your id, you will achieve contentment. There are videos on youtube about this subject.
