<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Mr Wong Yoke Siew's letter, 'Smelly, stuffy libraries' (Oct 10), and would like to thank him for his suggestions to improve the environment of our libraries.
We agree that a clean and pleasant environment is important to our library users for their reading and learning comfort. For this reason, carpets in all our libraries undergo regular cleaning like daily vacuuming and monthly shampooing. Spot cleaning is also done immediately whenever there are spills, dirt or stains. In the case of air-conditioning, the temperature is generally set between 23 and 25 deg C to maintain a comfortably cool environment while observing energy-saving practices.
As for Mr Wong's suggestion to install air fresheners, we will look into this as well as other options available to maintain a conducive environment in our libraries. Lim Theam Siew
