LHL - We need to a few more years to see social impact of casinos

Look at the proliferation of pawnshops and moneylenders after the first casino had opened its doors for business.

You think they don't affect the non-gamblers too?

You still need a few more years to study the social impacts of casinos?

We need more dead bodies to justify the social cost down the road !

According to my friends in the moneylenders' business, the Registrar of Moneylenders is no longer issuing licenses, even for branches of current ones. They were told the authorities were monitoring the current situation wrt abuses, agressiveness, MO of debt collection etc matters. Only an idiot would believe the reasons given. Imo, it is intimately connected to the casinos. The govt doesn't want the moneylending biz to proliferate for political reason. Hard for the chenghu to deny that both moneylenders' biz and that of the casinos are linked.

Solaire Manila Resort and Casino a new resort and gaming complex in Pagcor's Entertainment City in the Philippines, is scheduled to open by the first quarter of 2013. The casino resort will offer 185,000 square feet of casino space featuring 1,200 slot machines and 300 gaming tables. Translation: We like the money, what's a few shattered lives , we're all adults what.
Someone should tell PM Lee that none of the benefits have trickled to the people at large. If the casinos were used to fund a social safety net e.g old age pensions, we can at least see some justification for perpetrating this vice. If jobs in the resorts had been reserved for Singaporeans, we might agree there was some benefit. The taxes fom the casinos go into the surplus and is locked away for somebody's rainy day. It's time to make the reserves work for the people not vice versa. The fund should be prudently invested and the returns used to make Singaporeans lives a little less anxious and a bit more secure.

They started the ball rolling but did not expect the impact.
Now outside many are doing the illegal alongside the legal...with shared database even.
That's so much they can do now the evil seeds have been planted.

Thse people will always remember SINGAPORE as their saviour. A Nation that stood by them and against their own Singaporeans.

Dunno which other country (sorry, island-state) in the World is so good for jobless and low-paid Singaporeans to enjoy what foreigners get here. Other Nations seeing us doing this will arrest us, make us persona-no-grata and tell us to F**k off for they strongly feel that the Nation is theirs.........
