Notice that he was very specific for apologising in which accountability for public funds are not called for. Of course, there are costs involved in the loss of Salamat Mas - think of the extra manhours looking around when no one went to check on his family home.

The floods did not cause them anything either - it was the Orchard Road shopkeepers who suffered.

So, don't be too taken in by this "apology" - it is just a ploy to distract us again.

Apology per se means nothing if it comes when under pressure, when it is for something which is historical, when the choice of words did not reflect the sincerity and the seriousness of the matter.
