Sequence of events:

1. Ex CNB/SCDF Chiefs were arrested on 19 Dec and 4 Jan.

2. New SCDF/CNB Chiefs were appointed on 20 Jan.

3. MHA and PAP were silent on these events. News broke on 23 Jan

4. MHA hurriedly came out with press statement on 24 Jan and said that it had intended to announce the situation 25 Jan.

In school, we call it: "trying to bluff small kids"!

The lesson learnt for MHA and PAP is not to try and hide news that affect Singaporeans. Otherwise, they may appear foolish and liars

If this were in the US, Japan, UK or China, heads would roll. So no excuse for PAP right? So I covered the far right, center and far left. So where on the yardstick does the PAP standard lie? Of the the spectrum? I mean we are not US, we are not China, we re not Japan, so is Singapore an alien species?

Exactly. the way this saga was mishandled has a lot of political implications. Hope that the MPs can extract the whole truth in parliament.

We need to keep the civil service and pap in check, otherwise they become sloppy

hahaha...i took the trouble to look at the timeline and do not see anything "extra-ordinary".

1. Ng BG and Lim SP were not arrested on 19 Dec 2011 and 4 Jan 2012.
they were asked to go on leave when they were called up for investigation.....normal procedure.
also normal to keep mum at this stage of investigation....nothing unusual.

2. on 20 Jan 2012, CPIB informed MHA that both have cases to answer, so both will be suspended from 25 Jan 2012 pending disciplinary proceedings.
At the same time, their replacements will also be announced on 25 Jan 2012 and the appointments were effective from 1 Feb 2012..
When Wan Pao jumped the gun, the press release was advanced by 1 day to 24 Jan 2012.
3. It should be noted they have not been formally charged yet; pending the decision from AGC on the relevant charges to throw at them.

so were they arrested as stated by this MHA statement? or do u know better than MHA?

who told you their replacements were on 25 Jan? shdnt 20 Jan be the correct date as stated in the above?

This was from CNA, with some investigative and value-added inputs:

"MHA said that at the time, it was premature to make any announcement as the probe by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) had only just begun and the outcome was not known. It said doing so could compromise investigations.

The former chief of the Central Narcotics Bureau, Ng Boon Gay, was arrested on December 19 last year, while the former commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, Peter Lim, was brought in two weeks later, on January 4.

The CPIB said it is "normal procedure" for a person to be arrested if there are grounds for suspecting he may have committed an offence. He can then be released on bail and is required to return for further investigations if needed.

MHA revealed that on January 20, the CPIB said there was sufficient evidence to consider civil service disciplinary action for misconduct. That was when the ministry suspended the two officers from their duties and appointed replacements.

These would have taken effect on January 25, the same day it had planned to go public with the case.

But the plan had to change when a Chinese newspaper, Lianhe Wanbao, broke the story on the evening of January 23.

MHA's statement went out on January 24.

The ministry said that due process has to be followed, so that the accused are treated fairly, and legal or disciplinary proceedings are not prejudiced.

It reiterated that any allegations of misconduct against civil servants, whatever their position, will be investigated thoroughly.

WP - are just forgettable juicy news involving a pair of young romance during their call of duty.
PAP - are case involved money, sex and corporate crime. Tax payers money are at stake here.

hahaha.....today it was reported in New Paper that ah gay was given LOW on 20 Dec 2010 while he DCID.....before he was appointed DCNB in Jan 2011.
apparently he has some backing then....
