S'pore has the highest-paid politicians in the world because of the govt pegging ministerial salaries to top earners in various professions i.e. banking, law, and engineering to attract and retain talent, and to reduce corruption by providing competitive wages. So, instead of having to steal public funds, the money is deposited directly into their bank accounts monthly.
