So CPF money is not money ?

People dont cough out cash to pay HDB mortgage does not mean HDB is affordable, so how when you go jobless?

CPF money not for retirement ? Pay HDB mortgage for life?

Apuneh should get facts right, so what is the driving force that cause the HDB Hike ? Still the same answer---market demand ?

What is market demand? Buyers and sellers right?

so-called law minister should engage the forummers here to get a clearer picture.

cannot imagine that the forummers here make more sense that what the man says !

Which minister comes out high to defend the locals about high price HDB flats ???

Of the five million, 3.2 million are citizens and roughly 500,000 are permanent residents (PRs). The remaining 1.3 million are here on temporary work permits and they 'impose no burden' on the public housing system, said Mr Shanmugam, who is also the Second Home Affairs Minister.

those on work permits & social visit pass cause alot of social problems though ... they come to visit their PR relatives and make noise in the HDB flats ... they crowd the streets, the telcos, public transport ... read this article from today's ST also -- the whole country is like a madhouse ...

Maximise land use - but be prudent

I READ with interest Senior Minister of State for National Development Grace Fu's statement in Parliament on whether our infrastructure can meet the needs of the growing population ('Land plans cater to growing population', last Tuesday).

The recently opened Boon Lay bus interchange showcases how land use can be maximised. However, the small and compact interchange is clearly unable to cope with the 30,000-strong crowd heading to Nanyang Technological University (NTU), in terms of the number of bus parking bays available and passenger concourse area. Hence, the old temporary interchange has remained in use and is the dedicated transfer point for NTU staff and students.

The Clementi integrated public transport hub will be completed next year. I hope the operator will not be forced to keep the old interchange open for the National University of Singapore crowd.

New bus interchanges should be bigger to allow bus drivers to find parking spaces easily. Temporary bus interchanges can then be removed or redeveloped or be used as factory shuttle bus pick-up points.

If bus interchanges cannot meet commuters' needs now, how can they cater to the expanding public transport network?

We need to maximise land use, but we have to be prudent.
