STOMPers spotted this 'fireball' which fell over the Singapore skyline at 7.15pm yesterday (Aug 4).
According to the International Meteor Organization website, a meteor shower, or the Perseids, may be observed all over the world throughout July and August.
STOMPer Fanny wrote in an email:
"I saw this outside White Sands shopping centre at Pasir Ris at 715pm.
"I was on my way home after work, when I saw some people taking pictures with their mobile phone and I thought it could be a rainbow.
"So I walked out from under the building walkway to see.
"It was a fireball, not a rocket, because the end of it was all fire dropping down.
"I was so surprised I forgot to make a wish as I seldom see meteors.
"However I still made a wish for myself after taking the pictures.
"Such a sight is not often seen in Singapore.
"I hope the pictures bring you and readers good luck too!
"
STOMPer Jessica saw the same sight at Temasek Polytechnic when she was admiring the sky with her friends.
She reports that people in Thomson, as well as those at the western side of Singapore had a glimpse of this rare sight too.
The STOMPer sent in two videos she found online and says:
"The sky was still blue at 7.05pm but about 7.15pm, we started realising the change in the sky colour.
"Initially, we thought it's sunset but later we saw a flying object with fire trails, very clear to us, flying across.
"Then we realised the sun does not set in the east and the colour change was due to the fire trails.
"My friend added that this object should be moving at a very fast speed as it was able to produce fire trails.
"We thought, any flying object that has fire should produce a loud sound but we did not hear any at all.
"So we reckoned that this Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) should be so huge that so far away from the earth yet we could see it but cant hear it.
"It occurred at 7.15pm to about 7.25pm or so and my friend saw it vanish without leaving any fire trails."
