Saturday Special Report: Sex, lies and trafficking

EVERY year, many young women and teenagers from the region are lured to Singapore with the promise of respectable jobs, only to be forced into the sex trade here.


Others come willingly to sell their bodies, but have no idea that they will be locked up or forced to hand over all earnings to pimps.


Radha Basu pieces together the story.

ONE WHO GOT AWAY: Dede, 19, from a village near Surabaya, said she came to Singapore three times between July 2008 and August 2009, staying between 10 and 20 days each time on a social visit pass. She was still a minor at the time. She is seen here with her one-year-old daughter.
