Retiree Peter Ng, who is in his 60s, quickly shut the door and closed the windows when he heard men outside his home shouting aggressively on Saturday night.
The men were apparently looking for his neighbour whose unit was just opposite his in a block in Bendemeer Road.
Said Mr Ng: “They sounded like they were going to beat somebody.”
Ms Irene Lim, another retiree in her 60s, said she had seen at least three men, believed to be brothers in their 20s, brandishing knives.
A 32-year-old man who was living in the flat was believed to be their mother’s boyfriend, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
The mother, who is in her 40s, is said to be living with the man, reported the Chinese paper.
Ms Lim said the men were "looking for their mother and her boyfriend".
The police said they got a call for help at 8.20pm and two men were arrested.
