[TD="class: msgtxt"]GLC stole business from local entrepreneur
from Temasek Review Post date:23 July 2011
I am a local entrepreneur and like the writer of the article [Link], I face similar problems. I am so glad that, finally, the likes of us are reflected on TRE.
I am happy to say that all of my 20 staff out of 21 are Singaporeans. The only one is a PRC technician, who is an excellent guy that could compete well with the rest of the Singaporeans. He has been with me for 5 years and I hope to convert him to a Singaporean, but the system says otherwise. Does anyone have any advice?
I would say from experience, for every 20 PRCs, if you could find one just as good, you’ll be very lucky. As for Indians from India, none is as hardworking. They only have excellent lip service. If you have a weak mind, you could easily get conned by them that they are the most hardworking or the best. So, after knowing the characteristics of India Indians, I walked the floor constantly to check on them. All chose to leave after less than 2 months.
Pinoy is a no-no cause I have seen too many political games they played at the offices of my counterparts and competitors especially when they are in large number. Therefore, I stick strictly to locals, especially those who were retrenched during the last economic downturn. These are the lot who will strive hard as a team with you.
I too am bleeding since 2009. This happened when a GLC, which was my customer, started similar business and compete with me! They have funds and resources that I don’t have. They came to my office one day, citing that they needed my manuals and wanting to see my setup so as to ensure the quality of my work. Little did I know that after 3 months, they set up the same workshop, identical in size and equipment!
Is our gahmen really protecting local businesses from GLCs? This is like taking rice from the beggar’s rice bowl. Do you think it’s fair?
I am in technologies and was head-huntered to run a 400 over man company in China recently. I am contemplating to shut down my operations here and bring my generals to China and never to come back again… I have already given up on our gahmen. Furthermore, they keep advertising that they need entrepreneurs, but what have they done for us?
If they say they are giving funds and handouts to help local businesses, then it is an insult to us local entrepreneurs. We do not need such welfare. We just want the gahmen to keep their hands off the private businesses and also reduce the cost of doing business in Singapore. After 5 years in my business, they did nothing. And the worst is, they took my business away.
I’m completely speechless…
