11 injured in fire at East Village Hotel along Marine Parade Road



SINGAPORE: Eleven people were injured after a fire broke out at East Village Hotel at Marine Parade Road on Monday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said four children, five adults and two fire-fighters sustained injuries and were sent to Singapore General Hospital.

SCDF confirmed that it received a call at 9.06am about the incident.

It is believed that the fire started in the hotel basement.

SCDF said it is trying to put out the fire with six water jets.

It tweeted at about 12.20pm that the fire has engulfed the construction area in the hotel lobby.

Viewers who called the Channel NewsAsia hotline said the hotel, located at 25 Marine Parade Road, was engulfed in thick, black smoke.

One motorist, Mr Tan, said visibility along East Coast Road was also affected by the smoke.

Cherie Hearts @ Eastgate, a kindergarten and infant care centre at 46 East Coast Road, has asked parents to pick up their children from school as the air quality in the area worsens.
