Man hung gang-related banner at mum's wake

A man was convicted on Wednesday of displaying a funeral banner issued by a secret society at his mother's wake.

Kelvin Gan Boon Wah, 34, an office boy, pleaded guilty to displaying the banner with the words in Chinese meaning 'Tekka Righteous Brothers' at the void deck of Block 91 Henderson Road on April 6 2011.

The court heard that the banner was seized by a police officer at the wake.

A triad expert of the Secret Societies Branch said in his report that the five Chinese characters on the banner referred to members of a secret society. He also said it was the practice of the fraternity to hang such banners at funeral wakes of gang members or relatives of gang members as a sign of respect from the gang.

Never heard of this gang......since when they start naming gangs by street names

Tekka should be SGH group. Just one incident and they think they conquered this world. I have seen at least 30 such banners whereby police were unaware. Ceremony done at wake also very common.

PAP and even WP send party banners to members' or members' kins' funerals. Are they also secret societies? Or should they be arrested and charged too for political activities in funerals?:rolleyes::D These days these police must be bored or mad with nothing else better to do. No respect for the dead and no respect for friendship and brotherhood of the dead. All secret societies send banners to members' or members' kins' funerals for centuries since secret societies were invented. Some of the members are even police themselves. The only rule is to use civil Chinese characters without connotation to gang numbers, which I'm sure "Tekka righteous brothers" doesn't breach.

Yes its funny coz i have seen these funerals that hang banners and what police used to do was only send 'arm pai' to sit among the crowd to observe....

I opine the police acted wrongly by removing the banner at scene creating unwanted attention. They need to be more sensitive. It is a wake not a party. By leaving the banner there, I am sure it won't cause any law and order problems.

I came across one such wake whereby 2 SS groups claimed the deceased belonged to them. Both groups gave in and arrived at a compromise. The banner of one group took centre stage during the wake. The other group led in the funeral rites. Peaceful coexistence. If gangs can cooperate, why can't the police act with more sensitivity?

If such banners must be banned, they should ban 7th month dinners where most are SS or triad initiated. Listen to their bids and the figures (numbers) will indicate where the bidder is from.

Am pais are despatched for duty when the deceased either hanged for drug trafficking or was killed in a gang related incident. Police show face and presence to deter unpleasant incidents at wake which may happen if a rival gang shows up. For the high publicity cases, intel boys were sent to video the event, capturing on video faces of those present and recording their particulars. I recall death of S'pore Siao was one. Same for the guy who shot Milk Pig.

24 group also known as Ki Ka right? could it be Ki Ka Righteous Brothers? Henderson is 24 SAK?

Only in Sg can the pigs get away with this kind of disrespect.

In the US/Canada, when the Hell's Angels have a funeral for a member, they all show up in full colors, open to the public. No one interferes, cops or rival gangs.

Cheers!
