wow that's good for the japanese to implement these type of laws. I suppose my fren should be able to gain japanese citizenship much easier than those long time residents.
Japanese surname registration laws are very strict. You must renounce your birth ethnicity and surname in a solemn ritual, backed by your spouse or at least one of your parent or grandparent being born Japanese. Then, registered with in your prefecture rolls. The ability to speak, read and write Japanese is also a must as it will be gauged. You must swear an oath of loyalty to the Japanese emperor. Japanese citizenship is granted in the name of the emperor on the advice of imperial advisers. Even if you're able and willing to do all of the above, the discretion and judgment of the advisers prevail on a case-by-case basis. There's no such thing as in like US immigration and naturalization laws where you can get lawyers find loopholes to sue the government until it give you citizenship.
