SINGAPORE - For over two hours on Monday night, about a hundred people watched a crime drama unfold as riot police confronted a man who threatened to kill his landlady.

The 51-year-old man had quarrelled with his landlady, wildly waving a kitchen knife at her, according to Chinese evening paper Shin Min Daily News.

The landlady is believed to have locked herself in a room, with the man outside, and called police at about 7pm. She lived in a seventh-floor unit at Blk 5 Saint George's Lane.

Residents started gathering at the opposite block, Blk 8, when Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers inflated a life bag at the bottom of Blk 5.

Some officers entered units directly above and below the landlady's flat - on the sixth, eighth and ninth floors.

At about 9.15pm, when the man's emotions seemed to still be unstable, the officers then abseiled down from the ninth-floor unit to the one on the seventh floor.

At around the same time, riot police broke in from the front door, and the man was arrested.

A resident told Shin Min that similar incidents had occurred three to four times in the one year since the man lived in that unit, with police and SCDF officers arriving each time.

Police have classified the latest incident as a case of criminal intimidation. Investigations are ongoing.

Stupid mata!

Took more than 2 hours to catch him.

If he was really up to chopping up land lady, for the 2 hours given by mata, landlady is already minced meat.

Should just sniper him in the leg ASAP break in.

Besides, landlady could had heart attack with 2hrs or panic jump off window, during 2 hrs delay by mata.

it's tough to be a tenant these days when you have demanding and needy landladies. :p

Kekleng running amok they hide in ambulance....what the...!!

what an overkill hehe

Pappies needed whole squad of riot police to bring one Chinese ah peh into custody but let hundreds, if not thousands, of ah nehs to riot freely in Little India without even sending in one riot mata mata to quell the rioting.

Unique sinkie land indeed, unique leadership, unique policies.

Please don't take kitchen knives lightly. It can kill !!

Yes a knife is a knife whether it is used in the kitchen or not! The able riot police should swoop down on him and machine-gunned him or at least tased him.

Nobody asked what is the nationality of the 51 year-old male tenant yet?

The riot police have been preparing for a while since the riot incident at Little India, but no chance to do it live.

Now, even one ah peh holding kitchen knife is considered a big case.

Practice makes perfect !:D

this is what happen when PAP is in charge

This sinkie looks like a real menace. I hope the riot police whacked him a few times with their batons and tasered him.

Why didn't they throw a stun grenade in then barge in to arrest the guy?

They should prepare on how many of them Can fit a ambulance that's more practical

We have too many policemen ...that's why riot squad are called in for such minor incident.

Good grief I hope chootchiew did not end up buying the lv bag for chole the landlady

that's the easy part. the very hard part (no pun intended) involves inserting a said organ of questionable hardness into unknown at the sight of a rotten shriveled abalone, with grey unkempt hair around it as welcuming garlands. :p

I curse you to die a slow and painful death and be burnt in hell. If any of your insinuation is true, I die a slow and painful death and be burnt in hell.
