Jobless and hopeless in America

Their financial reserves are exhausted; their job prospects nil; their family relations stressed; and, their belief in government's ability to help them is negligible. They feel hopeless and powerless, unable to see their way out of the ditch they find themselves in.

Joblessness not only leaves deep scars on people -- financially and psychologically -- but also has enduring effects on families, communities and societies. Beyond the personal suffering, the despair of unemployed workers undermines their trust of employers, the economy and government.

The core American belief that people who work hard will get ahead has been shattered. Now the majority of the unemployed do not believe that simple hard work will guarantee success....

Rather than blaming the victims of the Great Recession or each other, our political leaders need to find the foresight, wisdom and compassion to undertake long overdue reforms of the American education and work force development system.

Is the Singapore govt different? Do the Singapore govt care? I don't think so because I happen to be one of these unemployed(unemployed) who have been struggling for nearly 2 years already...

There is no one who can say he or she did not know of a relative, family member, colleague or someone who has lost a job in this last recession and even from the 1990's recession.

Young graduates especialy in finance cannot find any jobs and parents have to send them on to do their masters or second degrees.

Young graduates doing receptionist and billing jobs for $7 dollars / hour and laid off CEOs and executives delivering pizzas , trash removals , cab drivering and serving in fast food restaurants and supermarkets.

Its a new order economy and companies and businesses are reluctant to hire older workers who are considered more expensive and prefer younger and cheaper new comers.

Jobs that the unemployed have lost will never come back for them. They have vanished overseas.

This is the reality and a sombre one.

The company I am in has the boss's son doing work here unrelated to his U degree because he cannot find employment elsewhere.

A nephew with a U degree is doing delivery for a Tau Hui shop. Ex bankers are laid off and now doing other consultation work.

Friends in the banking jobs in their fifties were laid off and decided on early retirement to look after grandchildren.

Even self employed are challenged to lay off their workers because of falling business and volume.

Those in the 40s and 50s are the most badly hit I think. Those in the 60s less as they were expecting retirement and the recession just only brought it on sooner.

Everyone is affected somewhat and depending on Govt bailout may be far along as the Govt has to favour business interests which are hiring cheap to take on the economic down turn and competition or perish or move out.

What I have done was to keep financially slim and nimble and to scale down debts and committments.

Keep my savings and emergency funds healthy and strong as we can never know when the golden hand shake will be offered. Never to take your job for granted because it is as secure as an ice cream cone.

Family members have to come together and support financially. There just is no other way.

The problem of America and sinkieland is different.
For America, their govt has always been trying to help,
desperately trying to help, even when the country has gone bankrupt.
For sinkieland, their govt choose not to help, and die die don't want to help,
even when the sinkies has gone bankrupt and has no choice but to self terminate.

That is not a big problem.Its just the right time is yet to come with big oppotunity.Still if you are very desperate for a job then try for delivery job.Its not a job that is big or small its only how you take your job.
