JAKARTA: Police have arrested a man whom they say is responsible for an explosion in front of Oikumene church in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Sunday (Nov 13) morning.
According to local media reports, the perpetrator allegedly threw a “low explosive” bomb as he passed by the church.
“Four people were injured and four motorcycles were burnt in the church courtyard, one perpetrator who was wounded has been detained and is undergoing a check up,” Samarinda police chief Setyo Budhi told local news portal Detik.com.
“The perpetrator is conscious,” he added.
The suspect, who reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the church is said to have been wearing a black t-shirt with the words, “Jihad Way of Life,” printed on it.
Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan regional police, Senior Comissioner Fajar Setiawan told state-run news agency Antara that the four victims were all children and have been taken to a hospital.
The perpetrator is “being held at the Samarinda city resort police command headquarters," he said.
A bomb diffusion team is sterilising the location from dangerous items and further examining the explosive.
Local media reports say the suspect has been identified with the initial 'J', and that he is a resident of Bogor, West Java.
