After going through preliminary reports from various sources online, we can now come to some preliminary conclusion why Ms Lo was killed.

1. Someone made the battle-cry to the Indian government, pledging support without knowing if it was a war between Pakistan and India or some fringe terrorist group. Even though Deccan Mujahedeen claimed responsibility, it is now known that other groups are involved in this co-ordinated attacks. No one really knows which group these attackers come from. So, in hindsight, it is risky and stupid to pledge support to any one party when you do not know much. Notice how USA and Britain handled the situation? Both kept low-profile and made speeches like "deeply shocked and saddened" but fall short of getting involved in pledging support to Indian government, when their citizens are held as hostages.

2. MFA betrayed Ms Lo by not relaying her message. Excuse given by the consular was to "seek understanding that events were fluid so MFA not able to act on any info"

When MFA is not able to act on any info, then why someone can make risky and un-needed comments to the press?

On a side-note, it does not give anybody indemnity or assurance by ass-licking the inner circle. See what happened? Ms Lo's father-in-law cannot even get GCT to help.

Someone said Sinkiepore will extend all help to Indian government to secure the release of Ms Lo. BUT not relaying her message is tantamount to sentencing her to death.

Game over.

when will we ever learn on this global political landscape. everytime i read a statement of support or condemnation, i shit in my pants wherever i am! it's bloody scary when such statements are made while many big countries remain diplomatically silent.

know the facts of the case before we pass judgements or make comments...you never know when it's your turn to " deliver the message". please pray for the soul of Ms Lo and my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

mfa is always quick to issue statements and make announcements. this has to be stopped for the safety of thousands of singaporeans travelling abroad all the time.

These are the facts as much as I know-
- After killing many and rounding up some hostages, namely Americans and British the terrorists asked for the release of a number of their fellow terrorists imprisoned in India.

- The Indian government was in no way going to deal with the terrorists because dealing with them will only invite more of such attacks in the future. This is the reality when dealing with terrorists.

- These terrorists were following the events via tv and the internet and were receiving messages from their comrades who were outisde. These terrorists knew most of what was happening with the help of modern telecommunications. They must have received news that one bapok was talking big and wanted to take them on. And this bapok just gave the terrorists another target to hit other than Americans and British.

- So this babok went on tv to tell the entire world that he will send help to release his fellow countrywoman. What an idiot this bapok. Knowing that the terrorists were targetting other nationals due to their fight against terrorists, this idiot manages to TELL the terrorists that he and his country were also wanting to fight terrorists.

- How did the terrorists know that she was a Singaporean and why was she chosen as a target? It is very likely that they went through her passport and found out or after the bapok went on tv, the terrorists decided to look for Singaporeans. And this lady foolishly puts her hands up when they terrorists asked if there were Singaporeans amongst them. She thought that maybe she would be released.

All in all, this bapok acted in such a way as to agitate the terrorists against Miss Lo. From being an innocent bystander or even an inconsequential hostage, she soon became their number one target. All thanks to this bapok.

The muslim terrorist would kill even their own kind just like in Bali, pakistan.

it's very complicated this reign of terror...just pray and hope that you are not caught in anyone of these messy scenarios...the smell of death is in the air once u r in them...no way to escape...just kneel down and pray for a peaceful and painless end. good luck.

Looks like the MFA Director of the Consular Directorate Jai Sohan Singh is active here. Your suggestion of the quote "deeply shocked and saddened" is followed to a tee in MFA's press release. :D

MFA Press Release: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Condolence Letter to Mr Michael Puhaindran

29 November 2008

Dear Mr Michael Stephen Puhaindran

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of your wife, Ms Lo Hwei Yen. On behalf of all Singaporeans, please accept my deepest condolences to you and your family.

I first learnt about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai when I was in Santiago, Chile. My immediate concern was whether any Singaporeans were caught up in the situation. Many Singaporeans travel and work all over Asia. So I was sure a good number would have been in Mumbai when the attacks happened.
As reports came in, we learnt that several Singaporeans were either in the vicinity of the attacks, or trapped in the Oberoi and Taj Mahal hotels. We also learnt from you that Hoei Yen had been taken hostage by the terrorists.

I knew that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had arranged for you to fly to Mumbai, and was in touch with the Indian government. I wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to express Singapore’s support and to offer our help to secure the safe release of the hostages. Tragically, despite the efforts of the Indian security forces, they could not rescue Hwei Yen.
This is the first time a Singaporean has been a victim of a terrorist attack. Terrorism is a threat that knows no boundaries. This is a family tragedy for you, but it also brings home to all of us thereality of this terrorist threat, and how important it is to keep up our guard and defeat it.

All Singaporeans feel for you and your family in this time of grief. Words will not count for much, but I hope the knowledge that you are in our thoughts, and have the sympathies of all of us will comfort and support you at this dark and painful moment. The Singapore Government will do everything necessary to assist you and your family.

With deepest sympathies

Yours sincerely

Lee Hsien Loong<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Because she is linked to the PAP. Terrorists will now attack any linked to the PAP who supports Bush. Some might think this is a joke, but terrorists are very clear in who they want to hate to forward ideological reasons. LKY can scare his citizens, but terrorists will bomb him and his bodyguards in a suicide bid. Terrorists fear not and will do what they need to do. I think the terrorists were clear on their objectives. If she had said she hated her government and sympathized in their cause, the hubby may have gotten to see her once more. Lying is okay what, LKY does it all the time, why didn't she?

Lesson to everyone. Inner circle means inner circle. Just because you related to goh does not have the same effect as a lee.

LEE RULES SINGAPORE. NOT GOH.

Ms Lo's father-in-law cannot even get GCT to help.

What can GCT really do? Go up to the terrorists and point to his pocket? :p

yeah he got the most head shots in the whole attack. But all hostages. He must be a counterstrike player.

Wah, like Chow Yuen Fatt, no need to aim one. Just pull triggers. He thought that this is Bollywood and that the bullets will fly past the hostages shielding the terrorists behind. Who knows, next month some Bollywood production will be based on this event - starring Shah Rukh Khan?

i do not think they care about the hostages during the attack.
what they are more interest is to capture or kill all the terrorists ?
count herself unlucky to be there.

No!, Jack Ass neo, will film his version, "Bullets No Enough", part IV, just like the Starwars series!

Reminds me of the Jewish hostage situation during the Munich olympics. The Germans were just as fucked up. The terrorists saw every move they made through TV cameras and live footage, and knew the police were trying to storm the building. What's worse, the Germans used normal policemen, not SOF.

I am taken aback by the 'repeated publicities'.

I just can't make out if the press or her husband or both are MILKING her demise for all the publicity that it is worth.

Perhaps he is being targeted as a future 'elite' or is trying to be an 'elite'.

I have not seen her parents say a word. Maybe there was but I didn't see it.

But I did find it DISTASTEFUL that her demise seems to be used to the max. Sad!

Really don't mean to say such things but that's the way i feel after reading, watching our news media.

I mean, I don't think if someone's loved one died, one should be making so many statements publicly. Or was it just one statement played and printed over and over and over again.

Don't they know when to stop "SPINNING"? Or is it so ingrained in them already?

Ms Lo's last message was "Tell them (MFA Authorities?) to hurry up". Meaning the terrorist's demands were still not being met!

BTW, it would also be interesting to know if the 2 rounds that killed her had been from the AK47s or the WWI vintage rifles used by the Indian Army?

If AK47 rounds, then huge exit wound from the torso and the husband wouldn't be able to touch the cheek of his dead wife with a head wound from an AK47 round?
