Hugo Barra, former Google VP in charge of Android, has just made it official on his Google+ page: Xiaomi is coming to Singapore, with "details coming soon..."

Barra originally hinted in early December that Singapore would be the company's next launch country after China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Xiaomi (which translates to "small rice") is a Chinese company founded in 2010, and is known for selling high-powered Android smartphones at low cost.

For example, its latest flagship, the Mi3, packs either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chip, a 13MP Sony camera and 2GB of RAM, the 16GB version sells for 1999 Chinese yuan (approx. S$412).

Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun announced earlier that Xiaomi sold 18.7 million smartphones in 2013, up 160 percent from a year earlier. Revenue for the year totaled 31.6 billion yuan (approx. US$5.2 billion), up 150 percent from the previous year. Lei Jun also announced that he plans to go more than double and aims to ship 40 million smartphones in 2014.

Xiaomi Singapore's Facebook page is now live, and we'll be following this story as it develops.

A picture shared on Xiaomi's Facebook page, with a play on the Chinese name for Singapore - translated it means "starting from the new", but it could also mean "starting from Singapore".

huat ah....does the menu comes default in Chinese & default ringtone is the Chinese national anthem?

MI fans, prepare yourselves for the world's first smart toothbrush! Later this year, Kolibree will release a device designed to "outsmart your dentist." The brush is designed to monitor how long you tend to your teeth, how rigorous you are with your brushing and even what parts of your mouth you might be neglecting. Simply download the app onto your Xiaomi, sync through Bluetooth and you're on your way to cleaner teeth! Now all we need is smart dental floss...

How do you share photos with friends? Posting on Facebook, sending through Bluetooth, uploading on Dropbox? We have the quickest, most convenient option yet, and it's available right on your Xiaomi. All you have to do is hold your phone up to your friends', click "tap to send," and you're all set! Near field communication (NFC) has a great deal of capabilities, most of which were pioneered by fans like you! So, MI fans, any fresh ideas?

i need a i-dildo that i can access & control using my Xiaomi...like that i can remotely give my partner an orgasm...anyone know where to get?

Pages and pages of apps on your Xiaomi? That's okay, we love our apps too, but a little reorganizing couldn't hurt! Let's start with your default home page. Just use three fingers and pinch the home screen to enter preview mode. From here, you can edit all your home pages, set your default page and put everything in working order.

We've all heard the saying "drink eight glasses of water day," but keeping track of that is a headache! This nifty mug can help keep you healthy and hydrated. Cuptime and its accompanying app can measure how much water you're drinking and when you're drinking it. Maybe soon it will also measure what you're drinking! What do you think MI fans?

[h=3]Android Flagships Compared: Xiaomi Mi-3 vs. LG Nexus 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE+[/h] The Mi-3 enjoys overwhelming popularity in the Chinese market; it sold out in less than two minutes on the day of its pre-order. To be exact, a whopping 10,000 units were snapped out in 86 seconds! What made the Mi-3 so appealing? Well, take a look at the specs table below and you will understand:

In terms of specs, the Xiaomi Mi-3 is superior to the other two Android flagship smartphones in some aspects.
[h=4]1. A Faster Processor[/h] First, the Mi-3 (WCDMA model) runs on a newer variant of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.
The Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) processor has its Adreno 330 GPU clock speed tuned up from 450MHz to 550MHz and its LPDDR3 memory interface maximum data rates increased from 800 MHz to 933 MHz. In short, the performance of the processor in the Mi-3 is expected to be better. We don't know at the moment whether Xiaomi will be bringing in the Tegra 4 or Snapdragon 800 variant of the Mi-3 to Singapore (or whether it will be the Mi-3). For comparison's sake, we're using the Snapdragon variant.
[h=4]2. A Custom Android ROM That's Updated Weekly[/h] The Mi-3 runs on a modified version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Dubbed MIUI version 5, it is a custom Android ROM that gives users endless possibilities in customizing the interface of their phones. Xiaomi's engineers regularly gather feedback from users on the software to resolve issues and bugs.
As such, the software on Xiaomi smartphones are updated every Friday. This gives users the power to decide what works for them and what don't. Although Google and Samsung are fairly quick in issuing software updates or fixes for their devices, Xiaomi wins hands-down with a weekly update!
[h=4]3. A Better Camera and Flash[/h] The Mi-3 appears to have better camera hardware on paper. Its rear camera has a higher 13-megapixel count (the Nexus 5 has 8MP, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has 13MP), and sports a larger aperture setting and dual-LED flash for better low light images.
[h=4]4. A Larger Battery[/h] The Mi-3 has a larger battery capacity at 3,050mAh. With smartphones generally running out of battery juice fairly quickly these days, the Mi-3 should be able to stay powered up longer.
[h=3]Questions Unanswered[/h] There's no question that Xiaomi's X-factor is its ability to sell high-powered specs at cut-throat prices, but what's unknown is how much exactly Xiaomi will be selling its smartphones here in Singapore. It's also unknown which smartphone model Xiaomi will be bringing here, and which processor variant it will introduce.
We are currently in touch with Xiaomi and will be updating this story as it develops.

I hate to say this, but this phone is actually quite nice.

This phone only need to target its marketing at nationalistic PRCs and it will be a success.
Just look and Li Ning....
I'll stick to my iphone like how I'll never give up my Nike for a pair of Li Ning.

If Xiaomi-MI3 cost more than $400 sgd, i will not buy. I won't overpay be it Iphone, Galaxy or whatever.
