The laws will change only if a few 'important ' people get killed by these type of bastard drivers. Until then ordinary folks like you and me have to just pray and hope that we or our loved ones dont get murdered by these road bullies.

Unlikely. They are chauffeured driven in their Audis and Volvos. Continental cars have a higher survival rate. And don't worry about them. They have hefty insurance payouts to take care of their families.

Big vehicles act like bullies on Singapore roads, any road user smaller in size to them have to give way to them. The only other vehicle that can beat a cement truck would be a MAIN BATTLE TANK like the ABRAMS M1 MBT.

How big a police presence can prevent more accidents ? Can we have a police follow every big commercial vehicle ? This is unrealistic.

It seems that bigger commercial vehicles are a bigger risk than smaller private cars. Perhaps the ministry of transport can work with bus companies and some of the big commercial vehicles companies to develop a more comprehensive safety training for big vehicles. Make such a safety training compulsory and showing cause of past accidents to help drivers avoid these types of accidents. After the training has been developed, all big commercial vehicles drivers must take the training within 6 months.

During training, showing past accidents and pictures of lives lost like the 2 kids recently may be able to instill some sense of responsible driving on these drivers. We can also show these commercial drivers the severe penalties that are meted out to past offenders to compell them to respect the law and the safety of other road users. Show all past cases to drive the message of responsible driving. This may drive some sense in them to be careful and not speed recklessly. If we repeatedly show them that they can go to jail for reckless driving, I am sure most will wake up. It's not just driving skill but correct attitude is also a major factor.

The penalties for reckless driving in past two decades was manifestly inadequate. This is the fundamental problem. No need to beat around the bush with long theories.
