Two Israeli F-15 fighters targeted Syria’s T-4 airbase in Homs province, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday. The jets fired eight guided missiles, but five of them were shot down before they hit the airfield.
In a statement on Monday, the Russian military said: “Two Israeli Air Force F-15 jets fired eight guided missiles at the T-4 airfield.” The Israeli aircraft did not enter Syrian airspace and launched the strikes while flying over Lebanon.

“Syrian air defense units have shot down five guided missiles,” the military said, but confirmed that three of the missiles “reached the western part of the airfield.”

The Israeli embassy in Moscow refused to comment on the Russian Defense Ministry’s report, Alex Gandler, the diplomatic mission’s press attache, told Sputnik. Asked about the Russian military’s statement, an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman said he had no immediate comment, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Citing its own correspondent, Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen channel said earlier on Monday that an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft was airborne during the attack on the Syrian base. The missiles crossed Lebanese airspace over Keserwan and Bekaa, heading towards Syria, according to the broadcaster.

The missile attack took place on Sunday night in Syria’s Homs governorate. State news agency SANA reported there were several “martyrs and wounded,” but did not disclose the exact number of casualties. The report also said that the US was “probably” behind the attack, although Washington denied any complicity in the strike.

“At this time, the Department of Defense is not conducting airstrikes in Syria,” the Pentagon told Reuters in a statement. “However, we continue to closely watch the situation and support the ongoing diplomatic efforts to hold those who use chemical weapons, in Syria and otherwise, accountable.”

France, which was also suspected of being involved in the attack, denied any responsibility for the military strike, AFP reported on Monday.

The strike on the T-4 base came shortly after Western powers accused the Syrian government of orchestrating an alleged a chlorine attack in the militant-held town of Douma. The chemical incident was reported by the White Helmets, a controversial group repeatedly accused of having ties to terrorists.

Commenting on the unconfirmed gas attack, US President Donald Trump denounced the “mindless” atrocity, which he described as a “humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever.” He also accused Russia and Iran of bearing responsibility for the incident, due to their support for Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Washington and Paris have already held telephone talks, during which Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron decided to oppose Russia at the upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting, which is being convened to discuss the Douma incident. President Macron previously signaled that Paris might consider unilateral actions, including a military strike, if chemical weapons were ever used in Syria again.

The Russian Foreign Ministry denounced allegations regarding the chemical attack, calling them a “continuous series of fake news” and “baseless speculation.” It noted that Moscow had already warned about a false-flag chemical attack being prepared in recent months. Damascus also rejected the accusations, with the Syrian Foreign Ministry pointing out that similar allegations emerge every time the Syrian Army makes advances in its fight against terrorists.

BEIJING/DUBAI (AFP) - China said on Monday (Apr 9) that it supports an investigation into a suspected chemical attack on the Syrian rebel-held town of Douma that has provoked global outrage.

US President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have vowed a strong response to the suspected poison gas attack, which left dozens dead, and the UN Security Council was expected to discuss the crisis later on Monday.

"We resolutely oppose the use of chemical weapons by any country, any organisation, any person, for any reason, under any circumstances," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters during a regular press briefing.

"China supports conducting a comprehensive, objective and just investigation into the relevant incident, whose results can stand the tests of history and an examination of the facts, and will bring the responsible party to justice under the law," said Mr Geng.

He said the UN Security Council and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons should continue their role as the main channel for dealing with the problem.

China is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council.

Asked about a deadly air strike on a Syrian air base following the poison gas attacks, Mr Geng demurred, calling on all parties to "promote peaceful settlement" of the strife.

Syrian state media reported that "several missiles" had hit the T-4 base in central Syria just before dawn on Monday. Washington and Paris have denied any involvement, and Damascus and Moscow later blamed Israel.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait have condemned the alleged chemical attack.

In separate statements issued on Sunday night, the Gulf countries did not assign blame for the suspected attack, which the United States and France have pinned on the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"Saudi Arabia is deeply concerned and condemns the horrific chemical attack," the state-run Saudi Press Agency said, quoting a Foreign Ministry official.

Bahrain denounced the alleged attack as ugly and stressed "the need to speed up efforts to protect civilians in every part of Syria".

In Doha, Qatar's Foreign Ministry said it was "deeply shocked by this crime".

"The impunity of war criminals in Syria has led to further atrocities and undermined efforts to achieve justice for the victims," it added.

An official at Kuwait's Foreign Ministry said the number of casualties in Douma was painful and he called for "rapid action by the international community".

Mr Trump reacted with fury to Saturday's apparent chemical attack - the last rebel-held area of the onetime opposition enclave of Eastern Ghouta - lashing out at Mr Assad and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price to pay," Mr Trump warned on Sunday.

Syria and Moscow denounced the allegations as fabrications and warned against using them to justify military action.

Backed by Moscow, Mr Assad has waged a seven-week assault to dislodged rebels from Eastern Ghouta.

The onslaught killed more than 1,700 civilians, displaced tens of thousands, and left Islamist rebels cornered in their last holdout of Douma, Ghouta's largest town.

Syria says strike on military base carried out by Israeli warplanes

ISTANBUL — A missile strike on an air base in central Syria was carried out by Israeli warplanes early Monday and caused multiple casualties, according to the Syrian and Russian governments, amid fears of a wider confrontation between world powers.

Israeli officials did not immediately comment on the reports. The raid on the T-4 airfield in Homs province — believed also to be a base for Iranian and Iranian-allied militias — comes as tensions rise over possible U.S. military action in Syria in response to an alleged chemical strike near Damascus late Saturday.

Syria’s ally, Russia, on Monday called the Israeli raid a “dangerous development” and said reports of a chemical attack near Damascus were also a “provocation,” Reuters reported.

U.S. officials said Sunday that they were weighing options to strike Syrian government targets after at least 40 people were killed in the opposition-held town of Douma, roughly 10 miles from the Syrian capital. President Trump also said Sunday that there would be a “big price to pay” for the attack.

Many of the victims suffocated, and the wounded showed signs of respiratory distress and foaming at the mouth, doctors and rescue workers in the area said.

[Trump condemns Syria chemical attack, saying Putin shares the blame]

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the world’s chemical weapons watchdog, said Monday that it was investigating the possible use of chemical weapons in Douma. A spokeswoman for the European Union blamed Syria’s government for the attack.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement Monday that Syrian doctors and other medical staff went to Douma to the site of the alleged attack but could not find evidence any chemical weapons were used. The ministry cited Syrian medical staff as identifying victims’ injuries as having resulted from fractures, gunshot and shrapnel wounds.

The heightened tensions come amid a reported deal to evacuate rebel fighters from Douma following Saturday’s alleged chemical attack. The militants from Jaish al-Islam had been negotiating their exit with Russian representatives. Russia’s Tass news agency reported Sunday that 8,000 fighters would be allowed to leave Douma for other opposition-held areas in northern Syria.

Douma is one of the opposition’s last strongholds near the capital and had come under heavy bombardment by Syrian government and allied forces in recent weeks. According to the United Nations, more than 1,700 people have been killed since February in the Eastern Ghouta area.

Also Monday, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 14 people were killed in the Israeli strike on the T-4 air base, most of them members of Iranian forces or Iran-backed proxies supporting the Syrian government.

Iran’s Fars News Agency, which is close to the powerful Revolutionary Guard, reported that three Iranians were killed in the attack.

[Like Obama, Macron said chemical weapons were his ‘red line.’ So now what?]

Iran is a staunch ally of the Syrian government and has deployed forces and assets inside Syria, including a network of pro-government fighters it uses as shock troops in battles with Syrian rebels.

Israel has grown increasingly alarmed as Iran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, extend their military reach and influence in the region, including an expanded presence near Israel’s northern border.

In February, Israel confirmed that it had targeted the same airfield in Homs after an Iranian drone entered Israeli airspace. Eight warplanes were used in that attack, Israel’s military said, including one F-16 fighter jet that was downed by Syrian antiaircraft fire.

War between Arabs and Israel is a good thing. Trump gets to show his commitment to Babi. American soldiers will get the opportunity to show their disgust for Trump by AWOL or disobey Trump's order. Mutiny against the commander-in-chief will be the first.

Let the war begin.

The Israeli submarine opened fire and used cruise missiles to raid Syrian military bases, and Russia took another shot.

2018-04-09 16:27 Syria / Missiles / Israel

The Syrian East Ghouta Duma encirclement was rekindled. The Iraqi forces in the pockets smashed the negotiation agreement and shelled the humanitarian evacuation channel and Damascus city. They were severely punished by the Russian Air Force and Syrian government forces. After the Syrian Army’s ground forces began an attack on the Duma, a new round of chemical warfare came to an end. This is because, prior to this, Russia issued a warning that there are indications that the Iraqi Slan forces of the Duma are preparing to plan a chemical weapons attack.

Russia's armored 2 air defense system deployed in Syria

The old United States accused Russia and Iran of supporting Damascus, and it seems that the latter is responsible for the CW attack in the Sumadu town. The Russian Mediation Center for Conflicts in Syria denied information that the Syrian Army was suspected of throwing a chlorine bomb in the Duma and stated that it was prepared to send anti-chemical experts to collect information, which would confirm the alleged forgery. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the purpose of the Syrian military’s use of toxic substances is to protect terrorists and justify the possible external armed attacks.

Subsequently, the United States State Department spokesman Heather Nauert pointed out that "it is necessary to respond immediately to the chemical weapons attacks that took place in the town of Syria in East Quta." At the same time, the United Kingdom, France and Saudi Arabia and other allies are also holding an emergency meeting to discuss solutions. US military officials said that the Joint Chiefs of Staff will prepare a list of possible Syrian attack options and targets within a few hours. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that military intervention in Syria may have serious consequences. The Russians may conduct military strikes on threatening air and sea targets. The consequences are unpredictable.

Russia's S300/400 missile system deployed in Syria

However, Syria’s military base has still been hit by missiles. The Syrian official Arab News Agency reported that an air force base in the eastern part of Homs was attacked by a missile. It is not ruled out that the US military may attack the target. The Lebanese “Meadin” television station reported that missiles attacking the S-4 air base in Homs, Syria, crossed Lebanese airspace from the Mediterranean Sea. This direction is roughly the same as the Tomahawk missile attack launched by the last US missile destroyer. However, the U.S. military denied launching the attack.

Israeli dolphin-class submarine is a conventionally-powered nuclear strategic submarine

Military experts said that the bombed T4 air base was considered to be Iran’s military base in Syria. Before this, he was repeatedly hit by air. The last time Israeli warplanes raided T4 Air Force Base and suffered a major loss (analyzed as a result of the Russian air defense missiles). An F16 fighter was wounded and crashed on the Israeli border area on its return flight. The re-attack of the T4 air base may not be related to the Duma's CW attack. Because of previous news, Iran deployed at least four long-time patrol drones at the T4 Air Force Base to coordinate Syrian military operations in the Duma. These drones are believed to be used for reconnaissance of Israel.

Israeli submarine attack from the Mediterranean icon

According to the latest news, the Israeli navy was responsible for the missile strike, but declined to comment on the incident of the guerrilla missile attacking Syrian T4 air force base. The attack was carried out by the Israeli Navy’s “dolphin-class” submarine, and it is believed that the submarine was also given the capability of carrying nuclear weapons by Israel. However, Israel’s crackdown has had little effect because eight “Polisher” submarine-launched cruise missiles have been shot down, and the missing missiles have had very limited damage to the T4 Air Force Base. This record should be Russia's air defense missiles and shot. Back to Sohu, see more
