Plan to visit Shanghai in order to clear some accumulated leave before Oct. Not too keen for expo unless no need to queue. How to kill the time if i will to stay for 5-6 days within Shanghai only without visiting expo? I just want to relax.
Is 6 days too much for shanghai alone?

if shanghai no enuff ... can go 2 nearby hangzhou n suzhou ... morning go, nite return ... :D

Shanghai is worth visiting if you can get cheap hotel/motel. Other then that a few days should suffice unless you have a local tour guide. I'll rather save the money and go to Jiangnan area where things are cheaper. More bang for your money so to speak. Also don't forget to visit the KTVs there, they are among the best in china. ;)

If you pass by HK, please let me know. Treat you to good dim sum there. ;)

Why a 6-day stay in Shanghai (or any single city) for a relaxing sight-seeing trip? Can split your itinerary into two cities, then return to Singapore.

I did some homework. Cheapest airfare found is around $603 (return, non-stop). Hotel is $56 per night. Might get hostel to cut cost. What's minimum cost for the KTVs there?

If you are thinking of staying at a hostel to cut cost, you shouldn't be going to ktvs, bro.
Shanghai has some nice places to see, the bund, jazz at the peace hotel, some nice old towns. If you are going alone, be careful of conmen and conwomen though.
Take a train or bus to Hangzhou to see the westlake. You might even want to stay one night in HZ.

Traveling alone go KTV? Very expensive (per pax since you 1 pax only) and potentially boring if you don't find a hostess you like to chat with within first half hour. Pub hopping maybe a better choice.

Ya, travel alone. I agree with you, especially me "wang can't sing", so pub is a better choice.

Recommend Jiusahigou in Sichuan if you want to relax, then swing to Huanglong, 4hrs drive from Jiusahigou. Then go Lefoushan near chendu.

Otherwise Beijing, more historical attractions. If not Xian.

Shanghai is eat and shopping only, plu traffic jams. One of the place worth going is Waitan and Buxinjie (long shopping belt). Pudong nothing much except the globe towers. Then watch Waitan from Pudong. No worth it.

What's the point of going to Shanghai now if you are not going to visit the Expo?

Hotel rates are at all time high and really outrageous. A really small room from Home Inn (similar to hotel 81) already cost almost RMB400 per night.

Shanghai is not a place to relax. Full of concrete buildings and those loud obnoxious CCB Shanghainese.

Forget about KTVs. Damn expensive and the girls damn arrogant. A fark at those lower end spa will cost you at least RMB600. Might as well go to Geylang.

Go to Hangzhou or Suzhou better.

BTW, got gf or lady/ies going with you bo? Itenary different;)

Logisex is right never never ever clash with any expo in shanghai. Expensive and difficult to get reasonable rooms on budget.

Not been to Shanghai, but agree with you, based on my experience dealing with them in Sg. I used to call them 下海人。
