Parents, who let their 12 year old children join in mountain climbing trips that expert mountaineers deem challenging, are irresponsible. They have the right not to give their consent. Refuse to sign those consent forms provided by the schools. It is squarely their fault. Please do not blame others.

You should empathize with these parents who have lost loved ones. Your statements are just callous and irresponsible. Mt Kinabalu is an easy climb. These kids can easy do it. However, who would have thought that the earthquake will strike at that time. The last time Sabah had an earthquake was in 1976 - 39 years ago.

However, who would have thought that the earthquake will strike at that time. The last time Sabah had an earthquake was in 1976 - 39 years ago.

Have you climbed Mt.Ophir? or even Gunong Brinchang? even by the laid out walkways, it is quite strenous, never mind, scaling it...how about Bukit Timah Hill??? or even Penang Hill...

Earthquake was something we never had expected....ok! but, we are talking about strenuous...we are not talking about Bukit Timah Hill...a mountain, which is located on some earth's fault...we are just taking nature for granted!

agree. the younger folks need to re-educate the Pioneers to change this mindset. its difficult but they need to be very precise when re-educating and not just use a wide brush else the Pioneers will not accept it

Mount kinabalu you walk up to the peak. No need to climb. They even have a race to the top and back. You cannot do thus if you need to climb.
In life, there are risk. Its better to let children climb mount kinabslu than stay home play computer games, in fact, they can even snorkel off kota kinabalu in its crystal clear waters. Mountain walking and snorkeling in one trip.perfect.
