iPhone-4-Fire.jpg

Okay, here we go again, just when we thought there’s nothing possible to still go wrong with the new iPhone 4 we hear that one unit has caught on fire and harmed the owner too in the process.

The iPhone 4 is a hot smartphone but we don’t want that kind of hotness. The device has been reported to overheat, in fact we’ve received lots of comments from iPhone 4 users that have been able to replicate the problem, but the device didn’t catch fire in any of those cases just yet.

iPhone 4 Fire

The picture above comes apparently from AT&T, as the affected owner brought the phone in a store in order to have it fixed or exchanged. The phone was probably replaced, as I doubt this unit could be repaired or that the owner would like to have anything to do with it anymore.

The phone was hooked to a computer for charging and the fire occurred due to the faulty USB port as human error was ruled out as a cause for the fire. This is an isolated incident so far, as there are no other similar reports out there. But if your iPhone 4 catches on fire, do tell us about it!

As you can see in the picture above, the cord was damaged pretty seriously and the burn affected the phone itself. Furthermore it looks like the owner’s hand was also burned in the process but he/she could have probably put the fire down without touching the iPhone or the cord.

There’s no word out from Apple or AT&T concerning this type of incidents and hopefully this was just a unique issue caused by faulty manufacturing. Since we did mention the iPhone 4 overheating episodes, we have to ask if there’s any link between overheating and fires. Can a hot (again, we don’t mean cool or magical) iPhone 4 catch on fire?
