This is something which I've always want to know for years but can't find an answer...

Squat. Prison wardens not allowed to dig. Only prison male nurse, the Baba, can touch the inmates on medical grounds only.

... One inmate even did 100 push ups at one go. Some of them carried pails of water as a form of weight lifting. Shorty Wong so horrified to see these inmates bodies so muscular and ripped that after he went back, he gave orders to Prison authorities to ban all pail carrying exercises and inmates can only do limited push ups. Reason for the order was because the inmates getting more muscular and turning into incredible hulks as compared to their pot bellied and scrawny Prison wardens.

Ok now I remember... Only extreme cases , prison wardens are allowed to do cavity search. But very very rare.

Mid 90s, at old Queenstown remand prison, a senior officer and JOs assaulted a Malay inmate. Malay inmate from Omega gang. Chap died in his cell. The wardens were charged sent to Tanah Merah prison. They were hot targets then so Prison authorities put them in charge of doing laundry work so that they won't encounter other inmates.

Prison staff last time not very fit. So Home Ministry recommended that promotion should also depends on their IPPT results. If they fail IPPT, then no promotion. So fitness level up few notches after that. Prison Service encouraged their staff to go for group runs around Changi area after their morning shifts. Tee Tua Bah, and former CID director Chua Chin Kiat to be fair to them , did massive sprucing of the Prisons Service during the 90s when they were in charge.
