Indian police have launched several initiatives in light of the criticism against them after the rape and murder of a student in 2012.

The gang rape of the medical student six months ago led to public anger and days of protests.

Much of it was directed at the police, who were accused of mistreating or ignoring victims of sex crimes.

Now the police say they are working to change their image and address the public's concerns by sensitising their police corps and initiating reforms.

Al Jazeera's Divya Gopalan reports from New Delhi.
