2020 pandemic year was Lamborghini's most profitable year ever

NEW YORK: The year the coronavirus pandemic hit was also Lamborghini’s most profitable year ever.

“We were surprised,” said Stephan Winkelmann, the new (and former) boss of the 58-year-old brand, speaking via a private video call March 15.

“An ideal model mix and the growing customisation of our products pushed profitability to the highest levels.”

By that, Winkelmann meant the wildly successful Urus SUV and the sell-out of high-dollar, low-volume supercars like the US$3.3 million Sian (RM13.6mil). The Italian unit of Volkswagen AG delivered 7,430 cars worldwide in 2020, second only to the 8,250 it delivered in 2019, according to the company.

Lamborghini declined to specify the exact operating margin or percentage of increase from 2019, but said it ended the year with a turnover of €1.61 billion (RM7.9bil), down 11% from 2019; the decline is attributed to the 70-day production stoppages last spring. Comparatively, net profits at fellow Italian brand and rival Ferrari decreased by nearly 13% in 2020.

The US with 2,224 units delivered remains the top market for Lamborghini sales, with Germany coming in second with 607 units sold, and China third, with 604 units sold.

After reporting even stronger sales year over year so far for 2021, China will finish this year in the second position, said Winkelmann.

Chinese car buyers in recent years have developed an appetite for ultra-luxury SUVs from the likes of Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and yes, Lamborghini. (Ferrari plans to launch its own SUV variant in 2022.)

In China as elsewhere, those high-performance, mid-six-figure SUVs outsell the rest of the sedans and sports cars in those manufacturer lineups. Last year, the Urus accounted for 59% of Lamborghini sales worldwide.

“Urus is giving us peace of mind in terms of return on investment and also earnings, and the earnings are giving us the confidence to reinvest in the future,” said Winkelmann. “It is clear the diversification we are having with Urus is helping us a lot.”

That's what lockdowns do they impoverish the more vulnerable while enriching those who are calling the shots from afar.

None of the rich pricks have been hampered by lockdowns. They fly their private jets or their chartered flights and bypass border controls with impunity.

Lamborghini has never been a poor company, but I'm surprised that the best year was exactly 2020.

Lamborghini ended 2022 by setting another record sales year. The Italian automaker sold 9,233 vehicles worldwide, a 10 percent increase compared to 2021. The automaker continues to see growth following the pandemic’s impact on the industry.

The Lamborghini Urus again made up the bulk of the automaker’s sales, with 5,367 SUVs delivered. That’s up 7 percent from last year. The Huracan was the brand’s second best-selling model, with 3,113 delivered, a 20 percent jump compared to 2021. The Aventador, which ended production (for a second time) in September of last year, sold 753 units. We expect its replacement to debut in the coming months.

To get more sports car sales, they came up with a high riding version, copying porsche.

It's ironic that Lamborghini's first car-based off-roader will also be its last pure-combustion vehicle. That's what you get with the new Huracan Sterrato, and it's finally official with a debut taking place for Art Basel in Miami.

This is the culmination of months of spy photos showing the lifted Huracan in action. The exterior design was officially revealed earlier in November, albeit somewhat shrouded in smoke. Now we have full disclosure, and here's what you've been itching to know. The Sterrato has a modest 1.7-inch suspension lift over the Huracan Evo. This allows for more suspension travel, and Lamborghini gives the Sterrato an updated version of its Integrated Vehicle Dynamics system to make the most of it. There are new calibrations for Strada and Sport driving modes, and there's a new Rally mode dedicated to low-grip surfaces.

You can never get that rich by working for someone, the only way to do it - create your own business and be your own boss.
I think i am on the right pass here, building a group of my own customers with the help of microsoft teams sms and making my services better and better.
I can not say that it is an easy thing to do, just hope it is worth it at the end.
