If Japan bastards invade Singapore this time, are we finished?

...... yet CIA stole all his blueprints: Shows USA is smart and cunning.
America bought him over to develop the space program: Shows America is smart and generous.
but seek America as refuge from German Nazis: Shows America is smart and magnanimous.

haha what a feeble attempt at defending ur beloved US of A. If the americans were really that smart would they, in the first place, need to resort to stealing or buying over foreigners to help their country achieve all these technological advances. Obviously, intelligence in their own gene pool is rather limited hence the need to resort to such acts to advance themselves. May i also add that medical advances that US of A achieved since WW2 is actually built on the back of knowledge inherited from WW2 Japanese military doctors.

Fren, the rest of the countries are only trying to catch up with USA. They may be disliked by some, because to maintain the superpower status, they have to resort to some dastardly methods, but that's the political game. And it's better to be friends with them than an enemy. China has come out of isolation and will progress with the rest of the world, but it is still a long way for her. And without the USA opening her markets to China, where is China going to sell her products? For the time being, China is only able to sell low-end labour intensive goods like clothing, toys and stationary. For her to even match Korea, and Japan's consumer goods, it will still take awhile. Those electronics goods she manufactures will not sell outside of China if they do not carry a foreign brand (Like Sony, Philips, Tepal). They've first got to overcome widespread homeland poverty and get them to reach middle class in order to have a home market.

Cheers!

Fren, Ur knowledge of China seems to be at least 20years behind, or it is the western version which always overplay the importance of the west to Asia and the insignificance of Asia to the west

China is not as poor as u think. The bulk of the Chinese are now at least in the middle class bracket or are moving towards it. Wages are rising in China such that China is slowly losing its "reputation" as the world's factory to countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, etc. Nice Japanese and continental cars are now very common sight throughout China and I was actually quite surprised to see Audi and Mercedes dealership in some small town in northern part of Gansu province, which is said to be one of China's poorest province.

Think about it if there is widespread proverty in China, why are there so many european brands eager to enter the Chinese market? Does it make sense to set up shop in a country where the people can't afford to buy ur products?

And no, at the time being China is not restricted to just selling only low-end labour intensive products. Just to name a few, they are manufacturing and selling their own luxury car (Hongqi), manufacturing their own military and space hardware, manufacturing their own high end electronic consumer goods such as flat screen T.V, smart phone, etc. In a nutshell, there is a local Chinese brand for just about every product there is in this world, and while many are surviving based on local demands, a few have actually made it into the western markets (such as Chinese branded motorcycles being sold in US of A and other parts of South America). You are also wrong on the part on Chinese branded and manufactured consumer electronics goods not being able to sell outside of China. There are Chinese consumer electronic goods brands like Haier that has expanded successfully overseas under its own name.

dude, it is about time u come back to Asia and revise ur knowledge of it.

Fren, I don't particularly love the US of A, just describing what I observe and comprehend. They may not be as smart as you think, but todate, they are smarter than the other two superpowers. That's why the smartest people on earth would rather live and work in the US than the other two. Even in China, the smart ones work for American MNCs who have located there. Medical advances come from all over the world, they just become more commercialized and bigger when they set up shop in Yankeeland, just like acupuncture and all those vaccines made by pharmaceutical companies. Which other country has the equivalent of Hollywood in the art of cinematography? Not even wish to mention military science. Russia is number two, but trails by a long shot. And China is still way behind Russia at this point in time. There is no lack in Yankee talent pool. And what about performing arts, music, literature, philosophy? How many well-known musicians does China have compared to say, California alone? By that, I refer to top class acts like Van Halen.

I visit China about once every quarter on official business, I am not backdated on news of happenings in China. Almost everyone I meet (professionally) in China works for a foreign MNC, and they all speak English relatively well - this is how they advance, by opening up to the world and not dwell on things Chinese. Whilst there, I see how Americanised they have become. Starbucks and McDonald's all over, and Buicks seem to be a wanted possession. Volkswagens (not US, but foreign nevertheless) too. Oh yes, they have local brands, but its quality is still not desired, just look at the dismal sales of Chery - in Singapore! So crappy even the agency might shut down (if not already.)

Oh yes, I am not twenty years behind. Currently, there is still widespread poverty in China, why else would there be so many PRC girls prostituting themselves, here in Peesai? Why don't they work as secretaries, sales, technicians? Reason is because there is a big big hinterland in China and the economic successes have not spread evenly (their revolution failed!!)

Dude, FYI I am now back in Asia. Reason is to work as the region is undergoing vast economic progress due to the opening of PRC. I am based in Peesai to do regional work (S.E. Asia) but visit China for regional group meetings. There is growth in the entire region, and China, because of her sheer size is a damn big market, that's why many US, European, Japanese and even Korean firms are there, for if they don't, they'd lose out to their competitors in market share. In this, China is benefitting too. But to think they are the desired place to be in, that's still quite a way off. China being so big, has big domestic problems too. Taking care of the people is not easy. Just look at the infant milk powder industry, let's start there.

Cheers!

KNN, no fucking manners.

To Agoraphobic, you are a very stupid retarded moron! Also have some sporeans go to Japan/HK to work as prostitutes.Every country have a small % of their girls go work as pros. you must see in terms % their pros vs their population. China is bcos population base is v huge at 1.3 billion so say if 350 sporean girls go overseas to work as pros which is 0.01% of sporean population vs even if 130,000 china girls go overseas work as pros, then sporean girls work as pros is even more in terms of %

Finish finish lah. After all, here mostly foreigners left, so ok for Japs to reduce the numbers.

So we're on the same page with regards to China's rise to be the 2nd largest economic powerhouse, inching out Japan.
And it is only just the beginning. Hence, America's post-WW2 decision to aid Japan instead of China is really dumb, or else now,
America would have China as an ally instead of having China and Russia on one side and itself on another.

There is no such a thing as obligated to Japan to help it after it surrendered. America should aid the victims, not the war-monger Japan, that's also why America's foreign policy has always been double-headed snake and sleeping with their enemies, to use them when necessary....such tactics cannot work in the 21st century, because nations are getting more sophisticated in their political affairs and not so naive. That's why Russia and China were willing to opposed America at the UN to prevent America from calling the shots on Syria......after seeing what happened to Libya after they approved the no-fly zone.

if the US leaders were smart then. they should have divided China by the Yangtze when the Communists were in Beijing and the Nationalists in Nanking during Jan-April 1949. China would be a divided nation like Korea. a Nationalist South China without the rich resources of the North and a Communist North China without the long rich economic coastlines of the South would never be able to threaten the United States' hegemony worldwide militarily and economically today.

the Republic of China Vice-President and Acting President ( 1949-1950 ) Li Zongren who officially directed the final failed military resistance against the Communist, wrote in his memoir ( 1960s ) that he is glad in a way that the US leaders did not take his advice and military intervened on behalf of Li and Nationalists and divided China into North and South. he looked at the divided nation Korea and is relieved that China and its people did not experience it. China might be weak now but eventually China will rise again and be one of the most powerful nation in the world. Li Zongren's words are proven right 40 years later.........

China went to the communist because capitalism didn't work then for them, the majority poor peasants were ruthlessly bullied by the landlords and Mao had the support of the masses. Americans might be considered dumb to some, but MacDonald's, Coca-Cola, Marlboro, Levi's and Elvis Presley sell much better than anyone else in their fields all over the world, on soil outside the US (don't even try to sell them in their own land, the only ones who've done that successfully are the Japs). Foreign policies won't work for long when the home locals start claiming what's theirs, even when those policies are from the world biggest power.

Anyways, the Japs started ww2 because of Brit and US embargoes on them, to some of their people, that justified the war for them.

Cheers!

how did Mao Zedong really win his masses' support ? why China's capitalism ( economy and financial system ) failed in the 1940s ? what happened to the Republic of China then was a very very sad story. if you are interested, i would tell you the very curious story of Chi Chaoting who apparently won the country for Mao and the Communist Party of China then. maybe you can google Chi Chaoting first.
