It was because of racial discrimination in employment back in the late 80s/early 90s - "must be Chinese" or "Chinese preferred" job requirements while Ah Beng (NS) denied discrimination at the same. Even Malaysian Chinese were preferred over Singapore minority citizen. Therefore I decided to ply my trade elsewhere.
Fast forward to today and the situation is reversed with Ah Beng (NS) getting his comeuppance at the hands of Ah Neh and Pinoy FTs instead. Serves Ah Beng (NS) right and he throughly deserves it.
What's worse is Ah Beng (NS) vying for PMET jobs, have lost out to better qualified and productive Ah Nehs and Pinoys and not due to employment discrimination. Shame.

It will determine if firms discriminate or failed job seekers useit as an excuse
DO A proper study to find out once and for all if employers discriminate against non-Mandarin speakers, suggested Mr Ahmad Khalis Abdul Ghani (Hong Kah GRC).
He then shared with the House the results of an experiment by his staff, in which they applied for jobs. They pored over a few days' worth of classified advertisements and found that 30 of 100 job vacancies for O- or N-level holders required the applicant to know Mandarin.
One staff member rang four of the 70 employers who did not require Mandarin, saying he was a male Malay aged 30.
While three confirmed they had no Chinese language requirement, one said someone literate in Mandarin was needed because of its 'Mandarin client base'. Mr Ahmad's staff e-mailed 15 others but have yet to receive replies.
Mr Ahmad's conclusion: 'It seems there are reasonably sufficient jobs that do not require Mandarin compared to those that do.'
But he still wonders if the frustration non-Mandarin-speaking job seekers express has any basis.
The Ministry of Manpower has urged employers not to be so 'blase' about including Mandarin in their job advertisements unless it is really necessary, he noted.
Could it be, he asked, that these job seekers cry foul over the Mandarin requirement every time their application is rejected because they are unwilling to admit their other shortcomings?
He said: 'At present, we can only speculate, which we should not do on an issue such as this. There should be a more honest and more verifiable study on the matter.'
He wanted the issue looked at thoroughly, in the same way the issue of low-wage and older workers has been studied.
Mr Ahmad was the last of 23 speakers during yesterday's debate on the Budget. While he lauded help schemes for low-wage workers, he said unnecessary obstacles exist that prevent workers benefiting from such schemes.

Ramseth DAC? Not possible when he was in the SPF but his intellect far surpasses many of the ACs and SACs we have today. I even suspect he is a better chap than the current CP today.

Here's the facts there are rich and poor chinese. OK. There ARE poor chinese in sg too.
In fact if you bother to check the stats you would see that poor chinese in sg would probably constitute the majority or perhaps a significant percentage of the overall poor in sg.
Then again we go back to the prison population in sg.
m&ds and shit skins are the majority.

Simply put they commit more crimes than chinese and being poor is simply an excuse.
The % of poor chinese does not tally with the % of chinese in jail.
This means that even chinese that aren't rich don't go about commiting crimes unlike the m&ds and shit skins.

How he qualified for it beats me.

I've studied in US before. It's not that easy. Many Mexicans are illegals. Green card is easy only by university/corprate job placement scheme or under relative/dependant. US got no national talent hunting policy. The varsities and corporations have to justify applications for green cards. Basic US national policy caters to family (relation/marriage/dependency) reasons only. For example, John Lennon couldn't get a green card. However, he was rich enough not to need to work and to buy property there and hire lawyers to keep renewing his visa.
