I once ate at 5SIR muslim cookhouse and have to say the beef rendang was darn good, better than some at upscale Indonesian restaurants. Wish I knew how to cook like that. However, good cookhouse food is an exception, most guys will more likely have fucked up memories of breakfast at ITD, rubber band beehoon!

I no lau sai ... 80 percent of the time, the malay food is better than the chinese. So, I opt to be a muslim for SAF makan.

Whilst it may not be "gourmet" quality, the hygiene part is strictly enforced, if the cook(s) are found to be lax in cleanliness, surely kena charged. It is very unlikely that the cookhouse staff will take this part of their work lightly. Lao sai more likely attributed to the food eaten outside camp. Muslim food compared to the chinese cookhouse, normally better quality food as the cooks are not worked to produce the large quantities like the chinese cookhouse.

Apparently you neber been to the cookhouse kitchen during your NS tour. I Kenna signed extras so went to do cookhouse duty, ie kitchen helper during battalion lull. Hygiene is the foremost in chief cook mind so the samples they took for keeping is properly prepare but the same cannot be said for the rest of the mass produce shit that they served to the troops. The worse was the veggie, just rinse once and into the wok they go. From then on, I never eat veggie in saf camps, the same go for the zi zhar stalls and economy veggie stalls as they use the same method in cleaning the veggie. Btw, the officers eat the same shit as the troops but only serve in a nicer way or maybe got extra eggs so chief cook make egg omelette for them. Due to my extras at the cookhouse, I got to know the nsf cooks very well so they allow me to raid the fridge for eggs, jam, roti, color water syrup etc etc back to barrack.

SFI cooks malay and indian food better than chinese and western food.

the nasi briyani with mutton curry and papadums, and the nasi lemak with otak were nice.

their attempt on hainanese chicken rice is awful (boiled chicken was not cooked thoroughly, rice no garlic taste) , same goes for western style chicken chop (which is boiled more than fried - horrible) and fries (oven baked - tasteless).

If you are from armour, than you know officers have some dishes prepared for them in small portions not available to other men. In armour, there is no muslim cookhouse and hence no muslim food. But there usually is a small Indian cookhouse. The indian cooks will deliver indian curries and what not to the officer dining room. Otherwise, the chinese men not allowed to eat in the Indian cookhouse and vice versa. Having said that, the indian cookhouse food is really good.

TS actally not wrong, SAF cookhouse food is reasonably good but cannot compare with outside food. The worst is SFI. Give stray dogs eat also don't want to eat. FUCK SFI!

Muslim and vegetarian section also nice. Occasionally, got chance to go these sections. Think it's due to the lower quantity of food for these sections, so quality slightly better than non-muslim.
