You may also want to apply to Canada. The economy is doing better there than the US. If you can get into Canada it is also the back door to the US.

Very difficult to seek political asylum in Western embassies. I know of someone who tried to do so. They simply showed him the door.

Getting accountability is easier if you have a populace who are not afraid of the gov't. In Canada there are at least 5 political parties that are in parliament right now. There is even a communist party in Canada
